Where has this been confirmed? Or is it just speculation? One would think that after recent events reacting to speculation would be shown to be at best embarassing.

Lots of people put their families before their jobs, I think that's a better way to live one's life personally.
But again, why not wait to see if he actually does play next season (and the reasons) and react based on what really happens rather than just rumour and hearsay?
If he does play for next season for the Flames mentoring a young goalie that could also be a good thing.

It doesn't count.
It was signed before he was 35.

I guess I had to spell it out more carefully. From our perspective as Flames fans I don't care about his family priorities. He, in my opinion, is well compensated for that and other players are making sacrifices too. If a NTC or NMC was a priority for him he should have negotiated one to take him to retirement. It would have saved us money and given him the piece of mind he wanted.

Why? Are you in Kippers family? No? Why do you care then?
Do you worry about Luongos kids and what school they go to? Or how often they see Daddy Roberto?

I don't think it does. It wasn't an 35+ contract.

Kipper can retire and hold his head up high knowing that he gave every ounce for this team.

I ageree. I think some people don't realize that there are some issues that Kirpusoff is dealing with that make being away from his familly more difficult than it would be otherwise.

I have no issue with Kipper's decision but I do have issue with terrible asset management by the organization. But that's a discussion for another thread.
Also, this place is creeping into HF territory. It's kind of scary to see.

I'm pretty disgusted by the entitlement of some fans that seem to think that every player must be converted into an "asset". Kiprusoff doesn't owe the Flames, Flames fans, or the city of Calgary a thing. Not . a . god . damned . thing. He is arguably the best goaltender to ever play in a Flames uniform, and I for one think that he deserves nothing more than our thanks and best-wishes as he transitions toward retirement.
|
Hmm, let's do some math here - the draft was around 9 months ago. Kipper would've had no idea he was having a baby. That changes a thing or two, does it not? There is NO assurance that he wouldn't want a trade so why is it ridiculous to suggest?
I'm disgusted by the idiots that feel they have a personal connection to these players and get angry at rational thinking. If Kipper doesn't owe us a damn thing (as you claim), why the hell should I care about him? Think about that for a second - he doesn't owe the fans or team jack according to you, but we should allegedly not care about setting the team up for the future to make him happy.

I don't mind too much given the situation. With Luongo, perhaps Miller, and apparently Ben Bishop (not sure why on that one), the goalie market is saturated by sellers. It sucks but it's true. If kipper were the only guy available, this might bug me more. Factor in this year's stats and I don't see a potential return being that great. No rebuild is perfect, but some are really bad. So long as other assets are on the table we can get more pieces for the future yet.

No, Jermain is just jumping the gun and then jumping to conclusions.

The thing is, he's forfeiting that compensation by retiring. So the Flames save next year's salary, and more importantly, next year's cap hit.

It's not crazy at all
I see where you're coming from but I'm almost certain he won't play another minute next season.

I hope he doesn't get traded. Seeing kipper is a leafs jersey would be the icing on the cake for this disasterous season.
Reading over tweets and stuff, it doesn't state anywhere that he's refusing to be traded. Dregers tweet says that he expects to still be a flame and that be will retire at season end. The flames can trade him anywhere, if he doesn't report it's between him and his new team.
The fact the kippers agents even talked with leafs management show that he would at least entertain a trade. But I think he told them honestly that his head and heart are no longer in the game and he would not be able to help in their playoff run.
