Your comment is as stupid as if you tried to quit your current job and your boss refused to let you. Somehow I don't think you'd slink back to your desk or cash register without comment.

Is he retiring right now?

So with this news, where are the Flames sitting in terms of cap space next year? That's about $19 million off the books for next season so far. Anyone good at math want to take a stab at how much under the new cap the Flames are for next year, barring a couple of re-signings?

As said in the other thread, just because he plan on retiring at the end of the year does not equal that he wasn't open to moving somewhere.
The Leafs, however, don't want just a rental, so they're moving on.

It's too bad the Flames can't get anything for him but obviously the guy can retire when he would like. Whether that be when he is traded, at the end of the season or five years from now.
I respect the guy for wanting to spend time with his family, and the amount of people losing their #### over it makes it even better. Reading this thread is like reading crap from the Canucks board that we all love to laugh at.
Do we even know if he would retire as soon as he's traded? Perhaps he would report to the Leafs, as indicated earlier, but the Leafs discovered his intention to retire at the end of the season and aren't interested in a rental...

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger 24s Kiprusoff told Leafs yesterday he was keen on trade. Perhaps, spooked by market and expectation. Leafs not upset. Respect Kipper's decision.

I don't think he owes the team anything, he's ready to retire and that's his prerogative.

You know life is good when, in the face of being able to make 1.5 million to play hockey for 8 months, you decline.

Can't see much of an investigation as proving it was planned and known by the team 5 years ago would be almost impossible to prove.
Kipper can just say birth of kid changed things for him and no way he would have known that when deal signed.

He is, and can continue to be one of the better goalies in the NHL (this seasons numbers aside) but apparently his heart is not in it anymore. If that is the case then the team can not allow him to play in any more games. If he is only playing half-hearted to finish the season what message does that send to his teammates. He has been the backbone of the team since he arrived in town and deserves everyones respect, but he also should respect the fans and the organization and continue to apply himself 100% to the task at hand.
Best of luck in the future to Kipper
|
Wouldn't that be the same message the management is sending by getting rid of the 2 best players on the team? The plug has been pulled on this season.

Some people here are clearly confused about what's going on. It's not semantics either. Kipper refusing a trade with retirement is not as bad as refusing to report an still wanting to play hockey. But there'a no way to know if he will actually retire or if this is a pressure tactic. Time will tell if kipper screwed us for now ill give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm just watching clips on TSN.ca, so maybe more was said live, but Dreger said that Kipper would report to Toronto if he were traded, but would retire next season
If so, why not trade him as a rental?

Dishonourable?! If you decide that you want to retire a year before the expiration of your contract it is now DISHONOURABLE?!

Any chance Kipper could work for the team in a Goalie coach/assistant goalie coach role?
It would be worth keeping him on staff just to pass on his stretching regimen.

Cant' say I'm upset at all. Would have been nice to get a pick for him but I respect the fact that he would give up one last chance at the cup to retire a Flame.

You know what......there is another scenario that can play out here too.
Let's say the Flames completely revamp their roster next year and he comes back for one more season. Minds can change.
