I love how Leaf fans say they have no need for Kipper due to Reimer/Scrivens but want Luongo.

If Reimer is good enough why do you need a goalie signed for the next 10 years.

Contract-wise, Kiprusoff makes way more sense. Even if he re-signs, he can possibly be relegated to a back up role in a year or two, and in any event will be a shorter commitment than 10 more years of Luongo.

But Luongo has been the better goalie this season, and it's not close. I suppose it depends on if you think Kiprusoff will experience a resurgence along with a change of scenery.

Amazing
I'll be the first one to admit (and tried to make it clear in my post) that it is not a rational response on my part. On the other hand, I feel the same way about it almost a full day later. I was just appalled and downright angry about that goal. I just can't shake the feeling that he just wanted to get off the ice as soon as humanly possible, and that goal certainly served that purpose.

I guess what I'm really mad about is just the total apathy. I know times are tough, but you're a professional, getting paid a significant amount of money to perform for your team. I understand and totally agree with the points about the team in front of him being, to put it bluntly, horrible.

But at the end of the day, you signed a contract, and in return, you should give everything you've got. Play to win, or go home. And from some of the comments from Maher and the others, it sure didn't seem like Kipper was interested in helping this team win.

And that, to me, is simply unforgiveable.

And now, after these least two games, the word is that he wants his contract fixed for next year, which I would have to assume would involve a buyout, then signing a new deal (can you even do that with the same team?). Wow, that's ballsy.

Does the CBA allow this?

Also where have these health issues comments come from? Kipper was on a plane to Nashville, 24 hours after Oscars birth. If there were health issues, i think he would have just stayed in Calgary.
As of a week ago his child was still in neo-natal care in the hospital from what i understand.

Some situations are different from others and it drives me nuts when people make asumptions about situations they have absolutely NO information about.

He can't even get extended until after July 1st

I think he just butchered the English... I assume he wants an extension. And they can agree to it... just not sign it until July 1.

He might be trying to be professional. But goaltending is a mental game as much as a physical one. How mentally dialled in can he be with all the outside stuff going on in his life? The team is being blown up before his eyes, he might not be here tomorrow, he's the last remaining piece of the 04 team, and he still feels like he has to be perfect or his team won't win.

Cut the guy some slack, he's only saved us from being an AHL team for three straight seasons.

Likely agreement to sign an extension on July 5, similar to the Flames with Berra.

Yeah, don't see how they can even talk about extension until July 5?

Well if the player was under contract, I'm sure they could negotiate as much as they wanted, they just couldn't put pen to paper until the clock struck midnight or something.

Unless they're actually forbidden from doing this under the CBA. Are they?

Poorly constructed as that sentence is, what about Miikka Kiprusoff's behavior the past nine years has led you to believe he isn't a flake? He's always been this way. He's always been a bag of cats, but he's our bag of cats.

IIRC you can't sign a player your team bought out.

I don't know what the cap implications of that buyout would be, 1.5M on a 5.8 cap hit, but it seems silly. ALthough if any team is able to not bat an eyelash at that, it's the Leafs.
