Irving is UFA as well I believe. He didn't play the games required to remain RFA.

Hopefully, by the time the Flames have developed their skaters into a competitive franchise, one or more of these goalies will have emerged as a starter.

When one goalie defeats another, does he get all of his powers?
If so, this is a very solid plan.

I want Joey Mac to stick around next year. For what he brings, we need a good veteran backup who can step in in a pinch, and he's been playing well for his expected level of talent and role. I actually think Joey Mac was one of Calgary's better roster moves in recent history.

Joey Mac has been the right pick up for the Flames i would resign him for another year or even 2. He is cheap and more proven then well ...this.

Then the Flames have Joni Ortio also on contract plus Laurent Brossoit expected to turn pro as well.

You do need a guy down on the farm that can win AHL games and be called up to play backup.

He has been better than i thought. Don't think he is a starter but not a bad back up. I wonder if the flames would consider having 3 goalies with the big team?
Probably would not make sense considering practice time, but if they are going with the 2 Euro's then there is no place for Mac.

FWIW, Russian/Omsk media is speculating (nothing official) that Ramo is done at Omsk and is heading to Calgary (link in russian):
http://tvoiomsk.ru/item.asp?id=10481
There are even rumours about Omsk looking for other options (they name certain names that will tell you nothing) as Ramo's replacement (link in russian):

First thing Hartley needs to do is teach the team to play defence, cause it won't matter who they have in net if they are going to be as atrocious as they are this year.
The first two goals by the Oilers were terrible terrible breakdowns. How Schultz and Hall had so much time in the slot is ridiculous. I don't blame Kipper for those goals.

This definitely improves the value Feaster got in the Bouwmeester deal. Looking forward to seeing him in Calgary next year.
I wonder if this is the end of Irving in Calgary.

Henrik Lundqvist is widely regarded as the best goalie in the NHL.
Does he need to win goalie of the month awards now to prove this? No.
Being the best goalie for one season in the KHL does not make you the best goalie outside NA. Feaster and co. have every right to their opinion on Ramo/Berra, they don't need to back it up with awards that these goalies have won.

Lundqvist won three "Goaltender of the year" award in a row in Sweden . Ramo won two "goaltender of the month" in last 3 KHL seasons.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henrik_Lundqvist
Before joining the Rangers, Lundqvist played for Frölunda HC in the Swedish Elitserien. During his years in Sweden, he developed into the league's finest goaltender, winning the Honken Trophy [goaltender of the year] three consecutive seasons; 2003, 2004 and 2005. In 2005 he also won two of the most prestigious awards in Swedish ice hockey, the Golden Puck and the Golden Helmet.

That's exactly my point. It seems just the opinion of Feaster and co. Ramo is not clear-cut the best goalie in KHL by any stretch. Some people, like Feaster, may think that he is, and it may be true, but he's not "consensus" best goalie in KHL at all. Don't get me wrong, he's still elite KHL goalie. Just not THE best hands down.

Lundqvist won the Vezina and was nominated for a few more. He never the goalie of the month award in the NHL because it doesn't exist.

Berra is/was a backup in the Swiss B division who is known for not being able to win the big game. Sounds promising.
"second best goalie outside the NHL'
So that means there are about 60 goalies better than him. LOL
The fact that in the middle of trade season Feaster would prioritize this tells me everything I need to know about the Flames.

No doubt the goaltending situation in Calgary going forward will be fun to watch.

Thanks but I already knew that.
Just stating that a goalie doesn't need to win awards to be considered the best. Personally, I felt Kiprusoff was the best goalie in the NHL during years he wasn't even nominated for the Vezina.
