The narrative for the last 3 year to get rid of Stajan at all costs will eventually turn into the Flames needing to sign Stajan.

If we don't get a decent return for Stempy, I'd like to keep him.

In fact, guys like Tanguay and Huselius signalled the end of the dominant two way Iggy as he just never cared much for defense after these two cherry pickers showed up.

He checked out at the beginning of the lockout. Hartley should've put him on the IR to save the Flames some money and open up a spot on the bench. If Mike Keenan was here behind the bench, he would've bolted back to Montreal in no time.

That Stajan is one of only two legit, natural NHL centres on our roster makes him all the more valuable to us.
I think he's turned into a pretty well rounded, versatile player for us though. Decent enough leader as well and great in the community. Keep him around I say.

They will be picked up tomorrow as the hours die down and teams start missing out on other players.

I ain't no religious freak, but we need to exorcise the demons out of the Flames.

Stajan is valuable to this team next year. Only paid 2.5M in actual salary

I'd rather Tanguay and Butler be off this team first.

Nope, free country, just find it odd because you seem like you don't think Stajan is a very good player, but yet you talk about him a lot. Guess I just wonder why that is?

Pretty clear that everyone on the team is in play at this point with only a few exceptions.

Because, whenever trade rumours heat up about a Flames player, we end up getting crap in return. Deliberate move by the Flames to get uber back when they both get traded tomorrow.

Stempnaik and Stajan have both played well this year for the Flames....
on a contending team, they are 3rd liners at best. but most contenders already have better 3rd liners. Teams out of contention aren't going to be offering to much for guys like Stempniak and Stajan right now, and teams in contention aren't really looking for guys like Stempniak and Stajan. I think they will be more valuabe at the draft, as teams look to fill holes.
Maybe Iggy can convince the Pens to make an offer for Stajan, with Crosby out now, Sutter can move up, and Stajan plugs the 3rd line with Morrow and Cooke.

They're having good seasons... at a 2013 Calgary Flames level. Not exactly desirable league-wide.

Not entirely true. I actually like Stajan and have been a big fan of him since he came into the NHL. I probably haven't been as ardent of a supporter of him here as dissentower has, but I actually have gotten some criticism here in the past because of defending him too much for a few people's likings.
With that said, I think the guy is an okay player, but not really good.
Because of the fact that until this year he has been rather unsuccessful as a Flame, I've been trying to take a more 'double-sided' view on the guy looking at him from both sides of the argument. I did believe he could have been used much better under Brent and I felt he was capable of doing as well as he's done here this year, BUT I couldn't deny that he wasn't living up to my expectations either as a Flame, until this year.
I think I have a very good read on how he is as a player given that I've seen him at his best and worst many times with the Leafs. And I must say, although I do think he's capable of continuing to play as well as he's played this year, I think this is almost as well as he's capable of playing, which is as a tweener 2nd-3rd line centre, and he's not really capable of playing that much better than he is now. This is close to as well as he's ever played at any point in his career, including his final two seasons as a Maple Leaf.
So, in conclusion, I think Stajan is a very okay player if you will and a solid middling NHLer, just not good enough to be much more than that.

No complaints with Stajan this year and Stempniak was worth the resigning.

We are going to need to keep some vets around, and while I'd would be happy with a large return for both, I'm pretty happy keeping them both on board. We need Stajan as he is one of our few centers. And Stempniak provides good secondary scoring.
Also, they are both UFA by the end of next season and I will expect they will then get moved if Feaster cannot find a good enough return for them this year.
Both are players who have actually lived up to their contracts this season and IMO are worth keeping if no better offer comes around.
