Wonder if the Avs regret not taking the picks.
No kidding. Could have rebuilt through the draft in one fell swoop.

Not sure why Avs didn't just let ROR go. They didn't want to pay him that much and would've been compensated with a 1st and a 3rd. I think the Flames were 10th in the standings at the time? That would've been a pick ~12th overall. Still good value

Yeah they could have walked away with 2 of Jones, Mackinnin, Barkov and Drouin. Unreal.

Again ***shudder***

They should considering they are tanking worse than the Flames and are now saddled with paying ROR $$$ this season and next. I imagine they are going to try and trade Stastny but as we are seeing teams simply aren't going to give up more than a pick and prospects for a guy for a player making $5+ million a season.

I personally feel that like with the Brad Richards contract offer that the Flames dodged another bullet on this one although ROR would have been likely a decent player as you can see by the Avs record since he came back he's not a difference maker. I'm really hoping that Feaster starts to learn from these mistakes as he may not get lucky with the next one.

I guess we lucked out.

What else can we say as fans? Most of us want Feaster gone...

I find it very unlikely that Kiprusoff decided at age 32 that he was going to retire for sure by the time he was 37. They all probably thought it was possible, so they gave him more money up front, but I doubt that it was a certainty back then. People act as if $1.5 million is nothing, but it is still more than he would get anywhere else, and quite possibly more than he will ever make in one year for the rest of his life. Keenan is just looking for attention. Kiprusoff may retire (his skills are diminishing and that would likely be the main reason), but there is no way it was decided way back then IMO.

As for the Crosby thing, it is time to let it go. Maybe Crosby and Iginla spoke, but there is no way to prove it. Unless someone claims to know otherwise, then there is no reason not to take Iginla and Crosby at their word.

In our conference too... every game for the next decade would be a painful reminder...

They probably assumed, as did Flames management, that Kipper would round into form and give us a shot at the playoffs. You can blame our defensive play all you want, and it had been bad, but the fact that MacDonald has put up numbers right in line with his career averages makes it clear that Kipper's play has been a huge part of the problem this season. If he were playing as well as he did last year, his numbers would suffer somewhat due to the poor play in front of him, but we'd still have Iginla and Bouwmeester, and probably would be in a playoff spot. Whether or not we'd be better off delaying the rebuild by getting a 6 or 7 seed is a debate for another thread, but I'm sure that was Colorado's logic.

Not a big deal.

The league would have never allowed that to happen, would have nullified the offersheet and given everyone a stern warning on coming to them for a clarification on the rules first.

The Flames obviously held the upper hand and the league didn't want to see a major TV ratings franchise to take the hit by losing such a valuable player.

Frankly, I'm getting pretty annoyed people keep bringing it up. It never happened in the first place, so let's never speak of it again.
