Reto Berra is HUGE. 6'5" 200 lbs. Looks Flexible as gumby but also looks pretty slow. Interesting pick up for sure. Looks like a big blocking goalie.

Darryl couldn't even get a first rounder for Phaneuf PLUS.
Phaneuf > Bouw.
Feaster gets a B for this move.

By comparison, even the emo-level CP posts come off as intelligent, compared with the drivel in the comments sections of TSN articles.

It seems like Feaster gets a laser focus for guys and loses touch of the true value of the return. It always seems like he conflates his value of the prospect with the trade value of the prospect, and doesn't get the proper level of assets in return when he trades. In addition to that, there's nothing to indicate the prospects he likes are as good as he thinks they are. Paul Byron is one example of a seemingly very middling player that Feaster really liked and it turned out that, no, he was just a middling player.

Oh yeah, bring back Darryl as GM!

A lot of 20/20 there, not very fair.
Joker was the guy many wanted for Iggy. Ya, maybe we could have sent less, but at the day of trade he was a multi 30 goal guy.
Dion trade he would have won if not for Stajan extension. Dion is a pylon to this day making $6 million in a cap world that is getting smaller next year.
Bork was a muti 20+ goal guy, ya term was 2 years too long, but it was a risk reward sign. Besides we got Cammi back for him.
Gio, really? Tell me 3 months ago you would write that.
Sutter made mistakes no doubt, but come on, at least give him credit for some of the tough bargening he did. Juice, Kipper, Glenncross, tangs, Cammi, etc.

Sounds just like when Bouwmeester signed in Calgary and the GM didn't want to pay/overpay Cammalleri for his 39 goal season......

Didn´t read after this, because this analogy although common, is pretty much completely false. Attending a top school does not equate to intelligence.

buy my point still stands, you still need to use Free Agency to build a contending team. Even for core players, if getzlaf becomes available do you not go out and try to get him to build your core of players?
|
Sorry, too much wine and tough time to be a diehard = sharp retort. Not an appropriate way to respond, I know.
Agree on Getzlaf point, but my counter is that guys like Getzlaf don't become free agents often (see Getzlaf) and when they do, the reality is a destination like Calgary will likely only get ones that are happy to take the cash at this point in their careers, IMO, not the ones that want to BUILD.

Gio isn't fair, you're right. I wouldn't write that prior to this season. Stajan was signed to an extension 2 months after he was traded for. His value was driven to near zero at the end of last season.
Bork was a great PKer under Keenan. At least Phaneuf is a gamer and shows some emotion. His numbers are still better than Bouw's.
Kotalik was a waste. Prust is probably one of the Flames best picks since I can remember.
Sure, Sutter deserves some credit, but no way in hell would I want him back as GM.

After watching a brief highlight video on youtube, I would say that while he doesn't look 'lightning fast' in a lot of these clips, he also doesn't really need to be. He's absolutely massive, and his positional play and fundamentals look rock solid. Even when he is forced to scramble, he has very good body control.
His glove position is also very good; keeps it nice and high, possibly to compensate for a lack of speed as you mentioned, but at least he's aware that high glove is a spot worth protecting. Unlike Karlsson.
He had better be in Calgary next year.

Said it better, intelligence is very subjective anyway and depending on what you want to measure with it.

Not when it comes to undergrad work, but to get into any graduate program in any school, much less law at a top-14 institution, you can't be as ######ed as Feaster makes himself look.

I totally agree. I ASSUME they know what they are doing with drafting/picks.
But having the balls to make these moves (in a hostile environment), when it matters, and while freeing up salary sounds smart to me. Iggy chose the pens and we worked with what we had. Bouw? I imagine the $6.6 MM salary for an unproven warrior was tough.

Who was coming dangerously close to bust in some people's eyes as well until this shortened season.
All in all I'm pretty happy with the trade.

Have to say I like the Trade.
We moved the guy..got a 1st (whether this year or not) took on none of his salary...
What were people expecting? I come one here and everyone bemoans the trade, but the 1st round picks we have collected are important. The other guys are throw ins. Even if only one of them turn into a decent NHL player, you win.
Good luck Jay, I was the most excited when you came (see name on CP), but you never quite worked out. Would rather have a balanced 6 guys, then a Top D anyway.

Not saying LSAT grades are directly correlated to intelligence, but in order to get into Georgetown, he likely shot between a 165-170. This would qualify him for Mensa (top 2%). The organization is stupid, but the point stands that it is almost a certainty that Feaster is more intelligent than the vast majority of CP posters.
Does this make him an incredible GM? Nope. But it makes the likelihood that he just outright did not understand the situation, ie did not take the best deal on the table, very low.
Argue that he is overvaluing a first rounder. Argue that the two prospects that they targetted are crap. But, please, do not premise your "FIRE FEASTER NOW" arguments on the fact that he simply made a terrible decision and could have gotten way more.

It's pretty safe to say that they do. A dude who gets a high LSAT score isn't driving a forklift or working with metal. Those things do correlate to intelligence, and not in a good way.
