Stempniak is worth a third at best. He is a depth piece for a playoff team. If you packaged him with the Flames' second, you might get a low first, that's the only way that happens (essentially you'd be trading up less than 10 positions).
I'll probably never say this again, but... I generally agree with Puckluck. All of this is the most promising stuff the Flames have done in years. It still should've been done in 2011, and the return for Iginla was still weak, but if I had taken over the team at the beginning of March, I wouldn't have done much differently.
I think trading Glencross is potentially a pretty excellent idea. He is still an attractive piece to a team not in the playoffs. STL's first and Glencross would be worth a likely top 10 pick. The Flames would then get 2 picks in the top 10. With a little luck, that could be an instantaneous rebuild.
I would perhaps put Kipper in a package and see if I could get another first out of him too.

After the Fleury trade, there was way too much bitching about Rene Corbet. The PTNL was the key component to that trade. The Avs offered a few names. Skoula was one and another was...Regehr. As it turned out, Regehr alone was would've been worth Fleury straight-up at that stage, esp. with Fleury's off ice issues.

Stemper could realistically bring in two 2nd rounders, based on performance and contract. Both very appealing attributes right now. And Feaster can actually deal with every team, a luxury he hasn't had with Iginla and Jbo.

Would love for you to be right, but his streaky-ness is a known factor around the league. He could turn ice cold in an instant and without the puck, he's not worth much.

I think the depth of this draft is still good. Coming into this year it was heralded as the best draft since 2003, now its supposedly not deep. I am no scout but Iook at the draft rankings and seesome good players out there.
With how high teams are valuing first rounders, I wonder if the reports from anonymous sources were more of teams trying to open up trades for first rounders.

I'd prefer we win it, then we'll likely be picking #1 (which we deserve damnit!).
Nevermind, forgot the new rules, but of unless the Penguins miss the playoffs (not going to happen) and win the lottery we won't be getting first overall. If the Blues miss the playoffs they retain their own pick, and we have to wait til 2014 (they can win the lottery then haha).

I think a lot of the people criticizing these past couple trades by feaster need to lay off the fantasy hockey leagues...
Star players arent traded for star players, even star prospects, as much as we'd like- they are traded for available assets that the scouts think have potential (even if we dont see it).

I say Either one of Tangs or Cammalleri and Kipper are the only ones who get dealt. there's a couple second rounder right there.

The core still sucks. Trade'm all for this year's draft. Fire Feaster first b4 the draft begins.

He is being paid accordingly. If he consistently scored 40-50 goals a year he would be making 6-7+ million per year. I think Jiri said it better in the Glencross thread.

In 1998, the Avs had four first rounders and picked Skoula, Regher, Parker and Tanguay

In the span of five years, the Penguins have had Hossa, Neal, and Iginla, to say nothing of Kunitz and Dupuis.
It's easy, it costs a 1st + a mid-level prospect and a top 9 forward.

To me, Cammellari, Stempniak and Kiprusoff are the guys who have good values to deal that you do it. Like others have mentioned, Kiprusoff is good for a 1st if he extends his contract. Stempniak is worth a third, Cammellari would normally be worth a 1st in most years, but this year I don't know. Gio I wouldn't deal as you still need NHL calibre players. Glencross is easily worth a 1st even though he's not a household name. I'd only deal him in a package with one of our Pitts/Stl 1sts for a pick around ~10. I doubt anyone pony's that up though.

Agree on the concept, but that draft was the exception rather than the norm. Almost everyone drafted in that 1st round turned into somebody big.
