What do we hope on competing for... another run at 9th to 12th? Until we have young impact players that can outplay their entry level deals, the only thing supplementing the roster with overpaid free agents does, is put us right back to that no man's land.

After the mediocre experiences with Jokinen & Bouwmeester, the lesson should be learned to stay away from tenured ex-Panthers.

The only way slightly good UFA's would come to Calgary this summer is for big dollars at big term. Flames are in a rebuild and need to stay away from Weiss's, Horton, Roy ect...

All of next year's UFA's are listed here: http://capgeek.com/free-agents/

I really want the Flames to sign Ryder and Clarkson. Clarkson especially.

We are going to have a CRAPLOAD of cap space this July 1st. Why would you NOT use that asset to your advantage?!!!!

I would throw obscene amounts at Horton and Weiss for up to two years if they refuse to sign one. With them in the lineup, at the very least we have a slightly competitive team again and at best it frees up the availability of more veteran assets that have tradeable contracts again next season. It's ALWAYS great for development to have good veteran players around so I see no harm in it at all.

By the time those contracts are done in two years, we have 4 or 5 very good young players starting their NHL careers with and new UFA's looking at the Flames as a possible destination because of a bright future again.

Yep. We're not going to see seven rookies in the lineup next season. Plenty of room for a Clarkson or Bozak.

But I loved Nilson and Juice...

I wouldn't mind seeing some sign & trade type deals done.

Does Vinny Lecavalier get "bought out" this summer?

Tyler Bozak is one of the better faceoff men in the league; only 27 years old.

He's a decent 2nd line center

Andrew Ference would be a good older guy in the locker room, maybe even captain material

Hate to use them as an example, but kind of what Edmonton did with Hemsky.

Mason Raymond is on my UFA wishlist.
Roy is going to ask for a kings ransom this summer so I would stay away.
Weiss would be a good fit short term.

The RFA group is where the Flames are probably going to end up shopping this year though. tight cap and lots of teams are going to struggle getting under.

Just skimmed through the list. I can see some guys like Lombardi, Raymond, Clarkson, Stalberg, Yip, Clowe and Ference, fit in with Young guns v2

No Raymond! Very, very nice guy, but we should be targeting gritty, leadership guys, that are hard to play against, to support the younger guys.

Raymond is the kind of guy that belongs on a strong team as a secondary scorer.

Raymond is a hometown boy and an effective winger. I think we should target him in the off-season for sure.

I think the Flames will sign Filpulla to a deal similar to Hudler.

I think Raymond will be targetted too.

We need grit. Clowe would be a great addition.

We have no right wingers. We will have to fill that side with free agent signings.

I would absolutely target 1-2 wingers in the right age group.

We can't ice a all rookie team. We need to supplant the young pieces with younger veterans.

The thing is do they want to come here now?
