Default Dealing with the City to get rear lane paved.

Have all the information from the City website here:
http://www.calgary.ca/Transportation...rovements.aspx

And I found a couple threads online regarding this but nothing in the last 2-3 years. Anyone successfully got it passed with their neighbors and what sort of reasoning did you use to convince people or get everyone to buy in? Or what were the final costs in recent years?

And whats with the whole waiting 6 years till after it's built BS, is that actually followed by the city as there are lots of alleys paved that aren't that old.

I believe getting your rear lane paved is an extra 50.

From what I've found yes, it ends up running $25-$50 per month on your property tax if you go that direction but that's based on the City of Calgary 2011 estimates. I'm curious what happened in 2012 or so far in 2013 (if they've tendered anything).

My neighbours petitioned to get our back lane paved and the jerks on one side voted no because they had their sidewalks replaced. It's a giant mud pit back there.

I found having the back lane paved to be a mixed blessing. Since it was paved there is a lot more traffic that uses it and people drive much faster. Yeah, when it was gravel it would be a pothole and muddy mess, but at least people were forced to drive reasonably. Now it is a free-for-all and with all the young kids who ride their bicycles back there I think it is fairly dangerous.

Yea, ours is a sink hole of mud. And since it's all mud nobody uses it and just parks on the street, which is also tons of fun.

Mine gets fixed every year. It's always a little muddy by now, but holds up just fine for the summer.

X 2 here. Ours is an actual named street (Lane) that has been paved but is in awful condition. A lake forms at the back of my house several times a year due to poor drainage.

I've called 311 for 4 years now, and was told unless my garage is flooded they aren't concerned.

Just wondering what my options are.

Your yuppie neighbours may be in the mood to fork out the money necessary for a local improvement to pave it. It may cost a few lattes worth of money each month, but you will no longer spill those lattes. The suspension on your Volvo will also thank you. Net gain.

The next time it happens, flood your garage.

My garage floods almost every year and they still don't care. They drop off a ####load of sandbags that keeps the water in my garage and pick them up 2 months later. John Mar says he'll get it fixed every year but then gets sidetracked with people growing potatoes in his own neighborhood etc...

KTrain had his done last year. I believe his monthly hit is in the $20/month range, or several thousand dollars (going off memory... 4?) if a lump sum is more your thing.

I can attest to this.

As a bonus, when they come, 3 months later and horribly mutilate your alley, they will send someone out in a few weeks to kick some of the 6 inch ridges down and repair the things the idiot with the grader drove into.

My buddy is having his done this summer in Riverbend.

According to him you only need a majority of residents to get it done. The rest are in by association.

It goes for review by the city and then put on a schedule.

He thinks it will be done this summer.
