No but I will sacrifice a small goat appease the hockey gods. If it helps I could get that goat to graze on Bouwmeesters junk before hand.

Those were great trades if you ask me, especially that he was able to shake up the lockerroom as well.

Well, we can agree to disagree then. I thought both those trades were indicative of Holmgren note being able to sit still. Tons of rumors revolving around Richards and Carter which necessitated the trade. They were so disruptive that they went to LA and won a Cup and look to be a strong contender again this year. Holmgren's team sits near the bottom of the eastern conference.
I will agree with you to the extent that the Richards/Carter deals rated the least moronic compared with the Brygalov and Pronger deals. People jump all over Feaster for the ROR issue, yet Holmgren went full ###### when he signed Pronger.
His early moves/signings/trades were very good. Holmgren for the past 2-ish years has been Sutter circa January/February 2010.
That's what scares me is that he's still employed and judging by his past couple years a Courtuier for Clowe deal is right up his alley.

Couturier probably projects to be similar to Langkow in two-way smarts, but with more size and more offensive upside

Both of those rumours are just the authors speculating possible returns, not actual sources saying Couturier is available or even being shopped.
I highly doubt Couturier gets moved for Clowe.
Rumour is a rumour.

Agreed in part, but Carter/Richards went from being THE guys in Philly (Richards was the captain) t0 being part of a supporting cast in LA - lower on the depth chart in importance behind guys like Kopitar, Brown, Doughty, and Quick.
Yeah LA won with Carter/Richards but was Columbus any better with Carter? No, because he didn't want to be there and he wasn't capable of being a team leader.
That wouldn't have happened in Philly. And Holmgren didn't trade them for rentals, he got long term players.

I get your point and I don't totally reject it. Also, I'm not equating the Richards/Carter moves as the same as the rumored Clowe move (Clowe being older and without a contract in place comparatively). But take the Schenn for JVR deal. Holmgren can't sit still. It's like trade turrets.

Unfortuately, weren't there rumblings out of the Flames' camp that they aren't keen on that?
|
Where have you heard this? I haven't heard anything, but it certainly makes sense. I'm sure Flames management has a hope & prayer plan in place to compete for the playoffs as early as early as next season and that likely involves dumping a truckload of money at free agents. Retaining some of J-Bouw's salary hurts in that regard, but if it can up the return to a guy like Couturier you have to do it.

Agreed.
Trading Couturier for Clowe at this point would be a monumental debacle, worse then when Atlanta traded Coburn (to Philly of all places) for Zhitnik.

Why was the Pronger deal so bad?
If he didn't take a puck to the eye he is likely still a top 5 d-man in the league.

It was a front loaded 35+ deal until Pronger was 42 years old. The idea was to make it a back diving deal where Pronger would retire at 40 and walk away with the majority of the contract having already been paid (similar to Luongo, Kippers, etc).
Holmgren in a moment of spastic GMing, neglected to read the CBA and therefore didn't realize that Pronger was 35+ and therefore the backdiving deal doesn't matter. The contract counts against the cap whether he retires, plays, is injured, etc. Feaster got roasted on the ROR thing, but IMO, this debauchle rivals Tallon's as worst of all time.

the only difference between a NTC and a NMC is with an NMC you can't waive the player or demote them without their permission. A full NTC limits trade options just as much as a NMC.
The difference is the player and how many teams they will accept a trade to. If the Sharks can talk with 10 different teams (rather than say 4) about Clowe, there is a much better chance for a substantial over payment due to an actual bidding war.

Had you read the link or all of the OP you woulld have seen an extension is part of the deal.

How is trading Richards and Carter for four great players under 23 (Schenn, Simmonds, Couturier and Voracek) even remotely similar to the end of the Darryl Sutter era in Calgary? I wish Sutter traded Phaneuf for any one of those players alone rather than getting four late 20's/early 30's vets.
