If they are going to trade him for Clowe straight up, I'd want more.

There's no way they're trading him for Clowe straight up.

Heck, if I were Calgary, I'd be willing to eat half of Jaybo's salary if it meant landing Couturier. With Iginla gone, it's not like Calgary is going to have much cap trouble. If Kipper decides to retire next year, then that's another $5.8M off the books.
Edit: Now that I think about it, St. Louis is high on Bouwmeester as well, but are having money troubles. Would Calgary be able to coax a higher bid from them if they were willing to eat a significant portion of his remaining contract? I guess to us fans it's easy, since it's not our money. But I wonder if Edwards would do it for better trade returns.

Couturier could easily be the new face of the franchise.

I've been saying for a long time that Bouwmeester for Couturier makes sense for both teams.
The way to make it work is retain salary, which the Flames are totally in a position to do.
Unfortuately, weren't there rumblings out of the Flames' camp that they aren't keen on that?

Man they better not be, for some of the other money they have thrown away in the past.

I'd retain ALL of Jbo's 2014 salary to get Couturier.
Yeah, I'm crazy like that.

Couturier has really regressed this season, and Philly is impatient and in win-now mode. I'd be willing to bet that they'd trade him straight up for Bouwmeester without us eating any salary, but I doubt that Bouwmeester would waive to go there.
Philadelphia fans/media absolutely hate guys who look like they don't care, and you'll never find a guy who looks like he cares less than Bouwmeester.

Not sure what this huge fascination is with Sean couturier. He seems like a good player, seems like he is over hyped here.

looking at Philly's cap space though, I just don't see how they can possibly do it.
Even if we retained $2M, and factoring out Pronger, they would be over $64M next year with 18 contracts

Anyone who plays centre is instantly overrated. They are the forbidden fruit of CP.

He is a big, defensively responsible center that at 18 was able to play a regular shift in the NHL often against the top players in the game and looked just fine doing it. Throw in the fact he was a prolific scorer in junior and I am not sure why there wouldn't be a "fascination" with him.

-17 doesn't really say anything about how defensively responsible he is or isn't because it is a garbage stat.

Briere is out with a longterm concussion, he could be placed on IR and boom, instant cap space. They also have about 13M coming off the books this offseason with their UFAs.
