You guys are insane. Dmen like Bouw don't hit the market very often. A smooth skating, solid defensively, top pairing puck moving dman who can eat up 28 minutes a game? With potentially a retained cap hit of a mere 5m?
Bouw will net a monster return. Easily a 1st and a top prospect. I think we could get Couturier+ for him.

Sorry, Burrows is worth Bouw+Bart+Tangs+1st. He is the best 30 goal scoring enforcer the world has ever known. He plays the game the right way. With grit, tenacity, and integrity.

Considering what the other D-men have gotten so far, i think you are right. If Feaster can not get a 1st and a good prospect, then we will really no how bad he is in negotiations.
I doubt JBO waives for Philly. He is going to want guaranteed playoffs.

and today Bouwmeester is the second highest scoring d-man on a 14th place team..... a team so devoid of hope that they traded away their franchise HOF player for crap shot futures.
Do you think that other teams do not see this and will concentrate on Bouwmeester being adequate on a losing team for a 10 game stretch where they never challenged for a playoff spot?
In the last 3 years has there been more than 20 games that Bouwmeester has been worth the $84,463 The Flames pay him every game?
IF there is someone who is desperate enough to take a chance on Bouwmeester they will not be offering anywhere what people on this board are hoping for.
Not only does his is -11 plus/minus the worst on the Flames defense there are only 7 NHL defensemen with a worse plus minus.
His scoring out-burst has him tied for 31st in NHL defenseman scoring.
For this his last year in his contract is paying him the 10th highest cap hit in the NHL for Defenseman.....
If Feaster can get any asset back for this salary dump he might deserve another 6 months to hang on to his job.

The problem with keeping someone like Bouwmeester is that the Flames have too many defencemen that are similar in the system like him. Brodie is cut from that same cloth, as are Culkin and Kulak. Smith and Butler are the same. Ramage may or may not make it, though with his last half-season probably has made Weisbrod re-think the possibility of just not signing him. Wotherspoon isn't too physical (but slightly more than Bouwmeester) and I am not sure how to count Breen really - not sure he will make it, or if he does, will be anything more than a 6th/7th (though I hope he makes an excellent 5/6.
Flames have been drafting 'smooth skating, 2-way defenders' now. You would have to think a few good defensive prospects are on their radar in the upcoming moves, or drafting more defencemen with their picks this year.
I really hope the Flames don't burn it to the ground. Unloading both Bouwmeester and Giordano would be a way too big of a step in that direction. In my opinion, one of the most underrated and significant attributes you want in your remaining veterans is leadership. Leadership and some competence, of course. I don't think there is anyone else on the entire team that has as much as Giordano now, and perhaps Cammalleri.
Boston does still have some pretty good defensive prospects. They seem to be needing a good defencemen still, however. How close are they to the cap? What happens if we eat 3 million, would they be able to fit him in? Something like 2 of their prospects, or their top defensive prospect and a 1st for next year? They are 'all in' right now after all.

I'm going to trust Bob McKenzie when he says Bouwmeester has 2-3 times the value of Iginla and hope for the best on Wednesday.

Yes, when he first mentioned that the "process of trading Iginla has begun", he said that it would be Bouwmeester who fetches the biggest return, being 2-3 times that of Jarome.
