It doesn't even have to be a top 10 pick... get one around 15 and pick up Pulock or Nurse.

Same could be said about the Flyers. They will likely be back in the playoff picture next season.

I brought this up in another thread; If we could get Buffalo's first rounder and Tyler Myers (they seem to want to get of him and his high priced contract) for someone like Gio (or any player that still has term on their contract) and the pens first rounder.
Myers seems like he could be a potential #1-2 guy in the future and their pick could be top 5. Without Gio or any other contributing player on the team, we could end up with the #1 pick easily!

Don't trade our firsts. Trade high-end players for more first picks. That's what we need.

I just can't see them giving up their first round pick. Leopold signifies the sell is on in Buffalo, and more than likely they will really covet that pick.

True, i was just thinking that they would want to get out from under the Myers deal. They would end up with a lower first and a better defensman in Gio. Maybe if we aquire more picks we could package Gio + Pens 1st + Pick from JayBow deal. The sabres could turn their pick into a defensman, 2 later first rounders and get out from a contract they don't like.

Gio + Pen's 1st rounder wouldn't get you Myers or Buffalo's 1st alone.

I think the Sabres really want to get rid of Myers and i think he could be had for very little since he was a healthy scratch a few games wasn't he? I think we could pick him up for next to nothing on our part, we'd be doing them a favour. I think if the Flames end up with top 5 pick, you give up anything to get another top 5 pick and hopefully get McKinnon and Druin (sp)

^ Myers may have a lofty contract right now but he still has value. And Buffalo's first pick could potentially be a top five one.
Gio + Pens first for Meyers + Buffalo's first is not only improbable it borders on being out to lunch. No way that's happening.

Why would Buffalo want to get rid of Myers? They don't care about the money and Myers is a much better d-man than Gio.
Also, why would Buffalo ship out their 1st rounder which will most likely be a 5-8 pick in the draft?
Ashasx is right, Gio + Pitt 1st couldn't get you either Myers or Buff's 1st, let alone both.

I didn't figure it would happen but if there was a way to get Myers, it would help this team out HUGE in the future. He does only hve 6 points (3 3) in 32 games and he's -7. I know they won't just give him away but I think he's a player the Flames should target. Getting another top 5 pick should be the Flames ultimate goal at the draft and would set them up for the future. Just using this as an example. Players like Myers who are still young and have proven they can play well should be one of our main our targets but getting a second top 5 pick has to be the goal of the draft. I think if we got another first rounder and packaged the Pens first plus (lets call it the JayBow first) and a player under contract, we could possibly get another top 5 pick.

I wonder if King Feaster is feeling the heat going into the trade deadline? Feels like a lot of swings and misses so far this season - ROR, Iggy, Kaiser, Cervenka, Jones, 14th etc.
Man, a real winner of a trade would be nice right about now. The kind where the Flames aren't the laughing stock.

That's exactly the reason it would be crazy for Buffalo to give up Myers in addition to a potential lottery pick.
Yes, it would be great to get Myers, and another top 5-10 pick in this draft would be amazing.
But swapping the 28th-30th pick for a 5-7th pick and Gio for Myers?
That's straight up day dreaming.

I am all for packaging the pick for a player. Like an actual in the NHL player.
For just a higher pick, no thanks.unless its on draft day and they have a specific target.
Higher picks are way overrated.

I agree with Poe, Myers would be a great player to target. What would it honestly take to land him?

It sure would be nice to win a trade again. The last time that happened, we traded Leopold's rights and a pick to Florida for JayBo's rights.
Then Sutter injected pixie sugar into his veins and went off the deep end.
I would really like a trade where people look at it and say, 'Wow.... Calgary bent over [insert loser team here].'

As of now the general consensus is theres a good chance it will be the 30th pick. So it could be worth more on draft day when we know for sure and it also has no where else to go but up between now abd then if the Penguins dont live up to expectations. So I say hold it until then unless a really good offer comes along.
Plus we could always use it to move from like 5th overall pick to top 3 if we really wanted one of the top rated guys but were just out of reach.
