Kind of hoping he comes to CGY just so other players can be moved without leaving too big of a hole.

Don't you people get tired of doing nothing but put this team down? Christ almighty the way some of you people talk about this team is downright embarrassing. How do you even call yourselves fans?
Is it a long shot to get him? Sure but.......
This is an organization that many players have wanted to rejoin because of how well they treat their players.
This is a world class city that sees so many former NHL players retire here because its a great place to raise a family.
The team can offer him extensive playing time without hurting their playoff chances so it give him time to have growing pains and make mistakes at the NHL level.
Weisbrod's ties to the NCAA can not be overlooked.
Also Feaster is a lawyer, spinning and selling things is his specialty.

Unfortunately he is missing the GM thing part, which is kinda critical.
As for the rest of your comments I fully agree.

I don't know why a young man Wouldn't find an NHL team known for good treatment of its players that just dismantled its biggest leadership component desirable.
If he's the kind of guy who likes to take control of situations and wants to make a name for himself in the league, right now Calgary would be the prime destination. We are in need of new players to step up, and BE the go to guys. If anything, should be very attractive for young players who consider themselves true leaders.
Not everyone wants to go to a team that's already established its core and leadership. You'd be far more peripheral in the big picture from the start. I dunno, I just know that if I were a young free agent looking for a club, I'd actually want a challenge, and want a team that would truly Need what I can bring and depend on me. I'd want to be a difference maker. Going to an already fairly successful team would limit my chances of being that right away for them.
We really can't rule out our team when it comes to these situations just because some of us think we are some total kind of embarrassment. Look at the Canucks, they're on the downswing, no longer favorites for the cup, and on the verge of losing their window to do anything meaningful, with no true prospects in the ranks, and still zero cups to show for 40 years of existence.
Have a little pride for once. I know I'm proud. How our team and ownership just handled the whole Iginla ordeal, giving him the opportunity of going to the destination he wanted just makes me even more proud. So classy.

Based on K. Kings recent interview, it sounds like it was the other way around. Iginla gave the organization one choice.

Outside of the Weisbrod and Feaster comments that seems to describe a majority of the teams in the league.
I think people realizing that the Flames don't really have something unique or better to offer the kid isn't hating on the team but looking at the situation without homer glasses on.

There's only one reason Dekeyser would pick Calgary and that's playing time. That might be a real concern as he is 23, so he probably wants to jump into money sooner rather than later. He might be worried that he'll get stuck down the depth chart on a stacked team, and not get a chance to earn a big raise on his next contract.
The problem is that the Flames really have mediocre prospects and a bad team, so there's little chance he'll want to sign with a team with such a bleak short term future.

If it was Detroit I think this is done already, have a feeling where he signs will be a surprise. I remember B.C. boy Schultz was supposed to sign in Vancouver too.

Detroit seems thin on defense so he likely gets a shot to get fairly good minutes if he goes there. Even Pittsburgh seems like they would have a shot to give him minutes based on their bottom pairing guys.
Defense seems to be fairly thin around the league right now and based on reports Dekeyser is good enough to play right now even for good teams.

I think these FAs are sold on a variety of things, one being the franchises blueprint for success and how they would fit into that.
Since the flames appear to not really have any sort of base plan, I don't see how they sell cgy to this kid and his agent.
Playing time, sure, but how many teams can promise him the same thing....

Isn't Don Meehan both DeKeysers agent and Iginla's?

Feaster was there pitching the rock solid plan, written in pencil and changed every time he had a question.

Come on now, that's just ridiculous.
Feaster clearly doesn't care about getting things in writing.

Yep. And Meehan isn't a bad guy, but holy crap you better have all your ducks in a row when you are dealing with him. He always gets the best for his clients and never gives an inch.
edit: I can't confirm 100%, but I think it's true that Meehan is his agent.

I think you're right. Mckenzie tweeted a few days ago that Meehan is Dekeyser's agent.
