What are you talking about?

Iginla had a NTC. Of course he got to pick where he went. This wasn't done out of the goodness of their hearts.

Feaster clearly isn't concerned with what is or isn't in writing, so I suppose this should shock nobody.

Murray Edwards, please clean house. We beg of you. We want to love this team and be happy. When management does and says things like this, it basically forces us to tell the fans of other teams that we walked into a door, rather than the truth. Save us, sir. You're a great man; you've achieved a lot. Now ride in on a white horse (possibly borrowed from Glencross) and slay the dragons that are holding this team hostage in an ivory tower on the side of a volcano.

We can all be happy now the blinders are off and no one can really be pissed at Feaster as much as I hate the man he was dealing from no position of strength Iginla called the shot the shots and in the end we got crap for him. Feaster can redeem him self with his next trade if he can not then he is not the man to re-tool this team.

Haven't seen this mentioned yet, but the Boston pick was conditional on signing. Iggy made it clear his heart was in Pitts not Boston. So what are the odds he would have signed.

So shouldn't the Flames be happy he saved them the first rounder? Instead of going along with Feaster and King and going to Boston, only to sign with Pitts in the off season?

Am I totally off here, or does King sound like a bit of a boob when he complains about the player nixing a deal that would have ended up being way worse 3 months from now?

Based on what?

Chiarelli said the pick wasn't conditional.

If the 1st was conditional which Chiarelli said it wasn't the deals are fairly similar if the 1st was included the Boston deal is much better. So don't see how the deal would be way worse in any case.

I actually don't have a problem with the Flames giving Iginla final say given all that he has done - but if that's the decision you made own it. Just say "we chose to get a suggested list for Iginla but still give him the right to control his final destination given how great he has been to this city".

No issue with that - but own it.

Feaster isn't a dumb GM.. He is fixing the mess created a couple of years ago and teams know that. If a player wants to go to one team and one team only, he did okay with the return we got. For those of you who say we should have kept him, well we could have lost him for nothing. For those who believe we could have waited longer to make the deal, there is no guarantee that the Pens will keep the offer on the table.

I really feel the Bouwmeester trade is going to break or make it for me as I think there are more options and value out there. However, Bouwneester has also been a dink in the past when it came to involving him in trades because of the mess created by Sutter.

The core that Sutter built a few years ago was:
Iginla
Langkow
Phaneuf
Regehr
Bouwmeester
Kiprusoff

4 out of the 6 players are now gone and most likely all six would be gone by the deadline or draft. I think that is when we can really start evaluating Feaster's team as opposed to him trying to first convince management to trade these guys when it's too late to fix the hot mess.

Wow, that was an interesting interview. I used to like Ken King, but in this case, he was looking for pity and practically begging McCowan and crew to give respect to the management of the organization. Why couldn't he simply answer the questions without clearly beating around the bush? It was an embarrassing interview and he should have been ashamed coming on and representing the organization in such a bumbling fashion. Jarome and Meehan pulled a switcheroo, and he should have acknowledged that. Going forward, the first thing they should do today is go to Bouwmeester and Kiprusoff and everyone else willing to submit a list, and get that binding agreement. The player has to option to submit a list - if they just want to go to one team and there's no return there, forget it. The organization can't be held hostage at this point.

Stupid to not get things in writing, but come on, would we have been happier to hear that in the end the franchise didn't give iginla final say?

I think things would have turned out the same even if they had his list of teams in writing.

Unfortunately, the flames are the punchline of most jokes these days thanks to numerous fumbles by management. This is just more fuel to the fire.

What has Feaster done to show he is not a dumb GM? His moves in Tampa got the team to the 1st overall pick and his moves in Calgary have been awful getting them close to a top 5 pick. This is all done by a guy that says he is not a Gm for a rebuild.

In terms of "fixing a mess" he sure has a odd way of doing that by holding on to guys for way too long and signing mediocre players to bad long term deals. If he was actually fixing a mess guys would have been gone two deadlines ago. This team would have been drafting top 5 (or at least 10) for the past two drafts. Retreads like Tanguay and Cammy would not have been brought back and the core of the team would be very different. The core of this team since Feaster took over has been made up of all Sutter guys seems like an odd way to fix a so called mess. Even now maybe you could try and argue that the core has Hudler and Wideman (terrible thought if true) but still a majority of Sutter guys.

I think that by getting Iginla to give you a list of teams it is fairly common that the player will then agree to those teams mentioned. I don't blame the Flames too much if Iginla decided last minute that his list was only one. If they knew about his desire for Pittsburgh earlier than that is an issue or if Iginla said I am fine with all 4 and they said well you choose the 1 then that seems a little unnecessary as well.

So here's a question.

Why is Ken King giving these interviews and not Jay Feaster? Why has Jay Feaster not been available to the media for over a month now outside of one 5-minute press conference? I know he was off to woo the Kaiser yesterday, but that's not really an excuse considering how long he's been muzzled for (and considering they have these things called telephones).

It seems like a hugely dysfunctional way to run a business when the guy who's supposed to be making sure the hot dogs are warm, is the sounding board for hockey decisions, and the guy who's supposed to be your hockey guy is kept in the shadows.

Fire the guy, or let him do his job freely. Just stop this crap.

King has talked to PTS a number of times in the past so his relationship with them likely made it easier for him to talk to them while Feaster was doing the Dekeyser thing.

Is odd that Feaster went from a guy who couldn't shut up to the invisible man. Not sure if that is because he is busy, because he was told to shut up or if it isn't quite so fun to talk when everything you have been spouting off about has been proven to be crap.

King seems to be the guy that goes on Mcowans show - he even did so during the Sutter era. Perhaps there is some standing relationship there or something.
Anyways I don't disagree with any of the above.

I get that he was away, but your franchise player for almost two decades leaves, and you can't pick up a phone? Even if not to PTS, then the FAN at least? The guy is muzzled, no doubt about it. I'm surprised they even let him hold a press conference for Iggy.

King should have kept his mouth shut. What was so good about the Boston trade anyway? A small Russian forward who doesn't have elite talent. Does anyone think he'll amount to anything? The conditional pick is irrelevant since Iginla wouldn't even go there for a month, doubt he would have signed there. As is the career 7/8 defenceman.

The 1st from Boston was guaranteed. As for the Russian forward, yes he might be a bust, but as an asset, his value is higher than the 2 that came from Pitt.
