Iggys days here are over, the only thing I see "MAYBE" happening is a one day retirement contract to retire as a flame. Unless Pitt goes on a dynasty type run and wins the next 5 cups then he retires a penguin

Anybody that thought he would come back in the summer if Pitt won the cup, probably did not like it when Iggy said something to the effect, that he heard once you win one cup, your hunger grows to go and get more.
If lucky he plays his final season with the flames, and that's if they have a chance at the cup. He will not be back for a long time.

He said something about playing till 40. There is a possibility that some how "miraculously" all our prospects pan out at a young age like the Pens or Hawks and he comes back for a playoff run very late in his career but I don't see him coming back anytime soon otherwise.

He'll be back. He said he wants to play another 5 years. He'll sign a 3 year deal with Pittsburgh (or maybe even somebody else). Then come back for his final two seasons. He'll want to retire a Flame.

Wouldn't it be awesome to see him come back in a few years so he can retire a Flame and they win the cup in his last season? Right now it seems like a big stretch, but what a great story that would be.

Here's what I think.
2012/13 - If he wins the Stanley Cup, he re-signs with the Calgary Flames in the off-season. When he returns, the pressure will not be so high on him and the rest of the organization to get him a cup. This is the best case scenario.
2013/14 - If the Pens didn't win the cup in 2012/13, he will sign a 1-year deal with them at a significant discount.
2014/15 - The Pens will have to re-sign Malkin, Letang, Niskanen, Kunitz, Sutter, and Despres so there's no way that they will have room for Iginla. If Iginla hadn't won a cup yet, he will try to jump onto another contender at a significant discount on a 1-year term.
2015/16+ - Iginla will keep trying to win a cup until he can't play anymore. The sooner he wins, the sooner he ends up back in Calgary.

I have a feeling he'll do what Modano did: Sign a one day $500K deal with the Flames so he can retire a Flame. Other then that i honestly don't think he'll be back. Would love it, but i don't see it happening.

Not for a while... once Iginla gets a taste of what its like to be on a contending team, he won't want to come back. But in 3 years, if we are a solid playoff team? Sure... I can see it. But it won't be for years, if Iginla plays that long and if we rebuild fast enough.

In a perfect world I'd like us to be a competitive playoff team and him come back for a run like Andreychuk did with TB.

To me asking this question before Iggy has even laced up for the Pens is rather silly, and it simply ignores the reasons this trade was made, to move forward. Both for Iggy & the Flames.
Yes, it would be the perfect story book ending for him to return to the team with a Stanley Cup ring and play his last game in the C of Red before retiring. But holding onto such a fantasy isn't really moving on, it's just sitting around waiting, and really leaves the team no better than it was before.
Will he ever play for Calgary again? Maybe, maybe not. But I sure hope we don't spend every passing year for the rest of his career asking "hey, think Iggy will be signing here this year?" like some kind of crazy ex girlfriend.

Iginla is done in Calgary. Still my favorite player in the NHL, but if he submitted a list of four teams and then winnowed it to one, he did the Flames wrong. His number will one day hang in the rafters, and he'll always be #1 in my mind, but bringing him back would only be for his benefit and the Flames no longer owe him a thing.
Its time to turn the page. Still a solid player, but not a part of the future.

He will play here again but it won't be in an impact role likely when he is 39-40

My dream is that he does, but after the taste of winning a cup with the Pens or getting close to winning one, he will stay put until he retires. Athletes love to win and win as many times as they can.

I would have gone with "no" before the press conference, but it really sounded like he's thinking about already. The number of times he said Calgary is home for him, mentioning how it's only a few months, and the "it'd be easy to come back here for sure"quote.
Not that it makes sense necessarily, but if he does win the cup, which looks quite possible, I think it'd just be too hard to resist for both sides.

If Iginla is there just as a rental and the Pens do make it all the way to the cup and win it all, and if Iginla does decide to retire, I can see him possibly coming back to the Flames on a 10 game trial and than retiring.

In a dreamworld I think Iggy wins the cup this season and comes back this summer. In reality I think he will eventually come back but it will be in his final season to finish his career where it started.

If he wins the cup this year then I could see him coming back to the flames in the summer. As everyone keeps pointing out, a Stanley cup championship is the only thing he is missing from his career. After that he would basically be ready to start thinking about retirement.
I figure that with that elusive championship under his Iginla (and his family) would sit down and discuss that final stage of his carrer. As already mentioned i think at that point there are more factors for him to choose to stay in Calgary instead of moving to another city/province/country just to chase a second championship and avoid a rebuild.
Also, after reading all of these comments about how significant Iginla has been with things like signing UFAs, we would have to be idiots to not want him back.

I have honestly found thinking about his return already as a dream or a hope for the future. If it happens or doesn't happen, he will be welcome here in so many ways. But for today, it's just a way to lessen the loss. While he's not retired or dead, he's not a Calgary Flame.
We should look at opening more Mercato's, Japanese Villages and Moti Mahals. I have it from my calendar today that he likes to eat there. But we should double the price.

Crosby and Iginla together until at least 2014 and the Olympics. They should win a Cup by then and it will be great practice for when they're linemates in Russia. Then he'll come back to retire. Maybe it's a pipedream, but it's a good one.
