You can't figure out how to post the same thing only once, or which your/you're is correct, yet you have a better handle on how to run an NHL team? You should probably pack your bags, as all teams will likely be looking to hire your services immediately.

Ken King isn't involved in the hockey operations side of things, not at all.

What a bunch of back-pedalling by KK in that interview... pathetic. Iginla had all the power and KK couldn't admit it. I love how they refer to the "player" having "influence" but at the same time saying they had two deals.
What a joke of an organization...

It took 1 mid/late season meltdown, and 3 awful starts to realize what everyone in hockey figured they should do and rebuild. The flames destroyed 2 of their best assets in Dion and Iggy. Kipper has little to no worth anymore and Regehr didn't have the value many thought. We are down to Bouwmeester as a big ticket marketable asset and I have no confidence this management team is going into get it right. We went from being the Leafs and are on our way to being the Oilers. Unless we hit the jackpot on a couple trades or prospects we are 5 years away from being a playoff team let alone being a contender

Oh I have absolutly no handle on how to run an NHL team, and am barely literate, yet even I knew the Flames weren't competing for 8th let alone the cup.

Organization looks bad overall but as much as I love Iginla that is horsebleep that he'd give a list of four teams and then insist on only 1 at the last minute. Conditional 1st from Boston was a joke anyway but why even present the list of 4 teams then?

Just mind boggling asset management over the years, Phaneuf, Regehr, Iginla turned into Stajan, Butler and 30th overall.
Bravo.
I hope they are all proud of themselves.

Ken King interview on sportnet today.
-Iginla forced flames hands, would only agree to go to pits
-should of had iginlas list of preferred teams in writing
-says management thought the team would compete this year
-backhandedly admits that the rebuild has started (at very end)
|
if Ken King stepping down isn't part of our rebuild, then it hasn't really started

I like how McCown pressed Ken King on how it looks like the Flames/Ignla pulled the plug on the Bruins deal and changed thier mind.

well, that's a tad scary...
the fact that those running the organization don't see that the team was slipping into the abyss, but refused to make the hard choices (to rebuild) and choose to pick up aging ufas to staunch the bleeding because their assessment was that they were a playoff team?
calls into question any of the analysis that this group espouses doesn't it?

There shouldn't even be a reason that something like that needs to be public. And if it is, as long as they just made sure Iginla knew that the list was binding I don't think anyone would care really. Asking someone to write down a list is hardly disrespectful to anyone.

A decent GM could have the oilers turned around and competing for the North West in a year, I'm not saying its going to happen, but the assets are there already, 2 well planned trades or free agent signings is all it would take.

I have to say I am shocked the official Flames position appears to be 'throw Iggy under the bus'

I had assumed that the Flames were willing to trade Jarome to whatever team he preferred as showing some kind of gratitude towards Jarome. I guess that was not their intent, and they ended screwing that part up.
I guess to judge what deal was in fact better, will have to wait for a few years. Let's see what becomes of Khokhlachev's progression as compared to what we ended up getting. Bartowski in my mind was just a 'throw in' and didn't have much upside at all, and is the kind of defencemen you can find as a UFA you can sign relatively cheap. I think Khokhlachev's upside is definitely bigger, and I was definitely intrigued by him, but not only is he short, he is also very thin. COULD bust, could become something we cry about later. Time will tell.

The issue is ownership in my opinion. They should let the GM do his job and if they don't like what the GM is doing, they should do it themselves. Sucks cause we can't do anything Murray Edwards is majority owner and gets to call all the shots.
Detroit was successful cause ownership let the GM do their thing. Having multiple owners makes it more even more difficult.

This actually kind of bugs me about King, and I would say I am a 'King supporter' here.
I hate what he said about Darryl when that happened, and I don't like what he said about Iginla either. Just makes the Flames look a bit bush league instead of a classy and professional organization. Feaster likes to make these sort of comments as well ("Broken-Down Modin"). Bush league, regardless of how true or false it may be.

This is much of the reason why people want Burke as our GM. He simply wouldn't allow non-hockey minds meddling in such affairs.

What proof is there that the GM can't do his job?
He has said numerous times and quite forcefully that he is free to do his job and believes in what they are doing.

This whole organization is actually a mess, like wow. Also show iggy some respect and call him by his name at not "the player." This whole trade was handled poorly by the flames, it should of been in writing, should be along few years for us fans.
