It really depends on the conversation you have with him. If he is not interested in resigning next year, trading him this year makes a lot more sense than at the deadline.

At a minimum if he is not interested in resigning shortly after July 1st then you move him in the summer rather than waiting for the deadline. But... if he is willing to stay you keep him. I think he takes a lot of pressure off of our other defensemen.

I only hope that Feaster can pull off trading an asset away for a few generic pieces that will never see the NHL...

Oh wait!

This is encouraging. I didn't think Bouwmeester cared about winning, but it would be embarrassing to go another 2 years without playoffs for him.

Having a playoff reseme should help him land a better deal when he becomes a UFA in 2 years.

I can agree with some of that, except I don't really think anyone on this team (outside of Gio maybe since he likely is being moved towards the leadership roll) feels any pressure anymore. The players see the same things we do, and while nobody should or would ever tank on purpose they know they are headed for a top 3 draft finish. Can't believe the players, defencemen would have much pressure to do anything but go out there and play.

Lebrun has mentioned that St. Louis has been 'basically begging' for Bouwmeester; McKenzie last night (in the heat of the Iginla uncertainty) threw out a little nugget along the lines of: 'wouldn't it be surprising amidst all this Iginla talk if the Flames would up trading Bouwmeester.' It would seem discussions around #4 are pretty far along?

I think a lot of players will be wanting out. Like someone else said. I think Jerome was the glue keeping a lot of people/friends here.

Oh i think we were all ecstatic the day Sutter broke the CP server once again and signed Bouw. We had a top 3 defence on that day. too bad we had a bottom 3 coach.

With the new coaching system really working for Bouwmeester, I would much rather see him stay and be a core member of the rebuild. However, if he doesn't see the light at the end of the tunnel and wants out, then we better be seeing a #1C (or potential one) coming back in the return.

I would definitely rather keep Bouwmeester over Giordano as far as having key components to rebuild around.

Yeah for sure. Gotta think Tanguay, Cammalleri, Bouwmeester, Kiprusoff definitely gone in the next week or in the next year.

I see Glencross, Hudler, Backlund, Baertschi, Brodie, Giordano, Wideman as the pieces they will try and build around.

I don't think either Bouwmeester OR Giordano need to be considered by the time this team has the capability to be an actual contender... (4-5yrs?)

I would agree though, if you can do it quicker than that (?), having this version of Bouwmeester be here would be great... but I think the pieces you could get in return for Bouwmeester, would help the Flames franchise more over a longer period of time than the years where he could still be here himself.

It's hilarious that people can praise Hartley for turning around J-Bouw and Stajan and then bash Brent Sutter in the same thread.

Do you not realize where we are in the standings and where we were under Brent? Hartley is somehow a better coach who gets worse results behind the same team.

I bet St. Louis wants to make room for Tarasenko in the top 6 and Stewart (despite his productive season) looks to me like that odd man out. He's also a RFA next season, so that has to be considered. I'm not sure if he's what the Flames need...

I came up with something like this...

Bouwmeester + Jackman + 4th Round Pick
for
Schwartz + Russell + 1st Round Pick?

does it matter Feaster will allow Bouwmeester's agent to submit a list of 4 that become a list of 1.
Is his agent Meehan's also ? I don't know.
I'm so very jaded about this whole management group.

Bouwmeester has been traded to the Detroit Redwings for who, who.
Lets just see it should be a 1st round pick. Can Feaster negotiate a no brainer 1st round pick and Weisbrod will scour the Redwings orginization for an NCAA prospect that is almost a certainty.
