Canadian financier George Gosbee emerged Thursday as part of a group of fellow Canadian investors who hope to close a deal to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes from the NHL for $170 million as early as next week, a source told ESPN.com.
Canadian investment banker and financier Gosbee represents a small group of investors to join forces with another Canadian businessman, Anthony LeBlanc. LeBlanc and his partners have been trying to take control of the Coyotes for three years in an effort to bring to a close the team's long ownership saga, a source told ESPN.com.
The group hopes to close the deal as early as next week after which they would work with the City of Glendale to hammer out a new lease agreement at Jobing.com Arena where the Coyotes play.

This is a legit bid from what i'm hearing locally. This isn't new to me.

That sounds pretty foolish unless they have the right to move the team whenever they want. If they have that right the team is worth a lot more than $170M. Of course I guess the NHL could make a profit with the relocation fee.

You can't buy the team without working the lease out. Who knows what kind of lease this council is going to give them? I don't think anybody knows.

A new investor appears, with a PR release:
http://m.prnewswire.com/news-release...200607841.html
Pastor has reached out to Mike Nealy, President, Chief Operating Officer, and Alternate Governor of the Coyotes, directly to express interest in purchasing the team.
"Hockey is in my DNA," Pastor said. "My family has enjoyed a love affair with the sport for over three generations. When we saw the prospect to get involved with the NHL and purchase the Coyotes, it was like a dream come true."
"A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Pastor has been around the sport of hockey for his entire life. In 1956, his grandfather and great-uncles bought the Buffalo Bison Hockey Club when the previous owner threatened to move the team, and under their guidance, the Bisons improved dramatically, winning the Calder Cup in 1960, 1964, and 1970. Buffalo's roster featured many future NHL stars and quickly became one of the hottest tickets in the league, with an average attendance of over 10,500 per game. The Pastor family sold the Bisons in 1971 shortly after the franchise joined the NHL as the expansion Buffalo Sabres."

Well, perhaps the schadenfreude of another season of Phoenix's misfortunes will take away the sting of the Flames current state.
Until the Yotes make the playoffs. Again.

I know you were joking, but if the NHL leaves, I would LOVE this! I would buy STs to the Heat in Phx.
Edit: The Arizona Heat... I think you might have something here!

This Darin Pastor is really into self promotion. Did a google search and this guy has about 100 blogs all talking about what a great guy he is. I mean like a Flickr account with no pictures, no nothing, but a full bio. Kinda creepy...

This is not a photoshop.. Is he legit? who knows..
Rumor is he's submitting paperwork to the NHL today, and has met with Glendale mayor Weirs in person. He goes as far as making fun of the pervious suitors that were unable to get it done in the interview below.
His interview can be heard here:

Going by past wannabe buyers and actual buyers, this guy sounds perfect for Bettman's criteria.
