Jay has done good things with this club. He got the best deal out there for Iggy. He would have gotten more if he'd been allowed to trade Iggy two years ago... and I bet he wanted to.

Wake up folks... the problem with the team isn't the coach, the GM, or most of the players. Its upper management and their irrational love for Iginla.
It would be awesome to see that proof because everything Feaster and everyone else says is the exact opposite of this.

Pretty simple here, Moon.

Boston offered Kokocrisps, Bartkowski and a conditional 1st rounder. The condition, obviously, would be predicated upon Iginla re-signing with the Bruins. This is essentially the same deal they offered to Dallas for Morrow without the condition on re-signing, kokocrisp and a 2nd.

Pittsburgh offered a lesser package without a conditional pick because they likely are uninterested in extending Iginla.

Jarome would have preferred pittsburgh the most but would have entertained an offer to Boston if it came with a contract extension for Iginla. When that wasn't happening, it wasn't a matter of which was the better offer, it was a matter of Where Does Iginla Want To Go. He wanted to go to Pittsburgh. "Pittsburgh was the team the player chose to waive for."

If Feaster didn't believe that and was just doing what ownership forced him to do then he is an idiot for being so forceful in expressing his views like he did.
No proof. We'll never have that proof. Biggest evidence of this was the about face Feaster did before last season's deadline.

Feaster isn't working the Graveyard at a 7/11, a GM can, does and is supposed to force issues.
Ultimatly what makes Feaster a crap GM is because he accepts his role as a toady.

IF there was a better deal out there, it will probably get leaked. The Bruins leaked what they offered for B. Morrow, so maybe we'll see the same thing happen here.

The fact of the matter is that the Flames had no leverage and with each passing day had less leverage.

I should add that I don't blame Iginla for driving the deal at all. He earned that right.
I have said from the start that I don't know just my opinion that they could have got more.

I don't take anything as gospel and fully admit it is my opinion that they could have got more than two dud prospects and a pick. I could fully be wrong on this and have no problem saying that.

I understand that the Flames had very little leverage but considering the Pens are going for it now, being very aggressive and Iginla was by far the top guy available for them they also had a lot of motivation to make sure they made a deal for him.

I am not saying that Pittsburgh could have pressured into dealing there top prospect/s but I do think that if they thought that including a guy like Harrington (or whomever their roughly 5th ranked guy was) would be the difference in getting Iginla or not they would feel pressure to make that deal.

Yeah, Feaster did not fulfill his formula of a top prospect + secondary prospect + and a first. Two secondary prospects at best.

But that doesn't mean they have to take whatever Pittsburgh offered right now and could have negotiatied to get a better return.

Just to be clear, the Flames options were a) make the deal, or b) get nothing. Nobody was upping their offers to a team that had no options.

Calgary was not in a position to hold out. What was going to change in 5 days? There was one team here who was risking getting nothing, that team doesn't have the luxury of waiting around.

If it was the best Flames could get for Iginla alone, they should have offer Iginla+someone else for some real good prospect. Rebuild means acquiring assets you can build around. This trade was more about letting Iginla win the Cup and getting at least something in return.

He's not a toady. He's an employee who has signing authority on most things except Iginla. Iggy exceeded the dollar amount and required upper management approval.

He's no different than 99.9% of employees out there. Do you have carte blanch where you work? I bet not. Neither do I and because I don't should I quit my job? Nope... and neither will you.

What does Smith add to any deal? How does that change anything?
