Thanks! But I don't care about that right now.

Brodie was not traded for the best player in Flames history.

But I admire your resilient optimism in the face of certain doom.

The Flames were in the position to either trade or not trade, their parameters were to basically save face by returning notional value. Organizational reputation was what they were maximizing, not return.
Sigh.

Since there were no reports that Iginka was only choosing one team and seemed to be fine with multiple teams it is entirely possible Iggy would have said get best deal from these teams and I will go to any of them.

Iginka just said it wasn't fully his choice so if the Flames said they had a deal with Boston and LA and that Pittsburgh wasn't giving up enough then it sounds like Iggy would have gone somewhere else.

If they had no reason to sweeten pot and it was up to Iginka solely shy not say 7th rounder take it of get nothing for Iginla?

They had THE card.

Team that gets the best player wins the trade. Right now that is PITT unless the 1st turns into something better.

I would say the best player is a pretty good card.

It has taken Feaster and crew two years to convince the owners to allow this to happen.

But go ahead and keep those blinders on. It's only Feaster running the ship with no accountability or superiors. Rabble.
Three years ago Feaster came on board as a yes man, he's still a yes man.
That makes him a crap GM, the question is 'is he a crap GM?' the answer is yes.

But in your card game analogies, the card doesn't expire leaving you with nothing.

Right, because he's going to come out and say 'I demanded they take a lesser deal'

What proof is there of owners stopping Feaster from doing want BS?

He has been very vocal about him believing in going for play-offs, he being a GM not for a rebuild and him thinking answers are in room/play-off team.

If Feaster didn't believe that and was just doing what ownership forced him to do then he is an idiot for being so forceful in expressing his views like he did.

Yeah, I hope is canned because of what he has said previously and also because I think he is doing a mediocre job at best. I would rather have Burke than Feaster.

Any good rebuilders lurking around?

No but he can just say he was happy that Pittsburgh was the choice and not mention other teas.

If he said Pittsburgh and only Pittsburgh and just lied about being open to other teams that will likely come out and look terrible on Jarome.

Incidently I cannot see Iginla giving Feaster 4 teams to trade with and then saying I will only go to the Pens in the space of a few days, I assume that either Feaster chose the Pens over the Bruins because of the conditional pick or he went to Iginla and asked him which one did he want to go to (which would be an utter abrogation of his role as a GM).

Exactly.

And let's not forget that this is the player who, just a few days ago, said there was no list. And now in this presser he basically said there was a list.

From my perspective it's all well and good. It's pretty clear that the Flames organization is letting Iggy say whatever he wants because they want him to look good and be happy with how this turned out. I'm ok with that and think that *is* the way he should be treated. You might be able to kick Ference (was it him? apologies if not) off the bus midway through the trip, but not Iggy.

But let's not pretend Iggy didn't have final say here, nor forget that his motivation doesn't line up perfectly with that of the organization's.

Time for a "I support Jay Feaster" thread.

Feaster has had his hands tied by Ken King and ownership. He's done the best he can with the options he's had to work with. I place the blame for the present day Flames and the Iginla situation totally on them... not Jay.

Jay has done good things with this club. He got the best deal out there for Iggy. He would have gotten more if he'd been allowed to trade Iggy two years ago... and I bet he wanted to.

Wake up folks... the problem with the team isn't the coach, the GM, or most of the players. Its upper management and their irrational love for Iginla.

The point is you're acting as if what is being said at the press conference is gospel. He clearly only wanted to go to a contender, and he obviously chose to go to the team that featured "the two best players in the world". Iginla had the ability to drive this deal, and he likely did to a substantial degree. Add in the contract status and the return is about what should have been expected.

The fact of the matter is that the Flames had no leverage and with each passing day had less leverage.

I should add that I don't blame Iginla for driving the deal at all. He earned that right.
