A huge part of managing a team isn't simply the robotic motions of moving and flipping assets. It is building up image, reputation and developing relationships with other GMs.
Shero has played a part in getting the Pens to that point though of course.

wonder how fast Feaster dances when DD says - so, the flames have missed the playoffs now for 5 years, and you guys suck this year, and you just traded your captian - how long is your rebuild going to take?

Not sure Dekeyser is the kind of player that Schultz is but it's worth a shot. Land him and make another player expendable to trade. It's tough to see why he would choose CGY unless he likes any of the D prospects coming up in the next year and believes there will be success with one of them. Thinking Brodie, Ramage, Wortherspoon. Tough sell to a kid from the DET area.

Trade away Sarich for a pick and Butler for a bag of skittles, then you can sell him on having a spot for him right away.

Seems odd that he is meeting with so many teams.
You would have thought this would have been handled by his agents and that maybe he met with the final 5 or so.
Considering the contract is going to be the same no matter what the agents could have whittled down the top 5 in terms of playing time, coaching, opportunity etc. and then let him meet the top to see his personal fit.
I can't imagine that starting today all 17 teams realistically have a chance at signing him.

Except his hometown team also has a huge hole on their defense with a chance for him to look good while winning, playing in the play-offs and playing with much better guys to help pad stats.
Also not sure every guy is a selfish prick like Schultz either.
