That's my problem with those who seem to be manufacturing outrage here...
Who's to say we would have got Morrow and their first?
With Iggy being able to potentially walk away from the Pens in June and them being the team he decided he wanted to go to... our hands were tied.
I could really take Feaster or leave him in the grand scheme of things, but the amount of people in this thread (I read through most of it) calling for him to be fired because of this trade are just out to lunch.
It's just tough to take them seriously, using nemanja2306 for example, when he's trying his best to be outraged at not getting Morrow instead of the first and the two forward prospects when he has "FIRE FEASTER" in his signature.
I get the need to be upset in general. Losing our franchise player sucks. But the need to place blame and the faulty logic in doing so is just painful to read.

I'm disappointed, but wow, what a crazy turn of events. I'm thinking Feaster had to make this move today as there are too many moving balls right now. There are other moves to be made, and he had to finalize this one. I just hope there are more first rounders to be had - maybe even get one for next years draft.

Well that was a fun read with many highs and lows from the CP population. I went to bed last night and Iggy was off to Bos for players and a cond 1st, wake this morning and it is PIT and 2 college players, wierd turn of events.
I am not going to comment of the circumstances of the trade to either Bos, Pit or La, none of us were truly involved in how this all went down, so speculation is no more reliable than a conspiricy theory, it is what it is.
Glad we got the 1st, regardless of where it will be in the draft, nothing to stop us using it to trade up, and having no conditions attached makes it a better pick as well imo.
Regarding the two players, at the end of the day prospects are exactly that prospects, you never know what you're really going to get until they retire. These two are young players who have not turned pro or played a game at the pro level. They could turn into high scoring top 6 players and all the doubters will make out like the trade was a stroke of genius or they both bum and we only have the pick to show for it all, at this moment in time we really don't know.
I know many wanted a name they could hang their hat onto with Iggy leaving but they are going to have to wait a little longer before someone becomes the new face of the flames. With any big change you have to go through the rain before the sun comes out again. More players will leave and new ones will arrive, these changes should be seen as an exciting time for the flames. Who says we cannot hit a home run with a new influx of prospect to the team, lets be honest we are due.

It's already been said, but Khokhlachev and the Bruin's 1st would have been a far better return than the 30th pick of the first round and two b-level, no-name prospects.
Son, I am disappoint

It's tough for all of us who are still here, but I can take some comfort in knowing that he's is in a better place now.
As an atheist, I've never gotten to express that sentiment before. It feels good.
Good luck, Iggy. Get that Cup.

Penguins fans are so lucky...they have Crosby and Malkin, a recent cup, and now our Iggy.
So jealous

What I hope happened is that iggy only wanted to be a rental so he can resign in Calgary... So the conditional pick wasn't going to work for feaster knowing that iggy will be back after the playoffs.

I'm optimistic one of those assets will become a good player. I look forward to Iggy finally getting another legitimate shot at winning it all.

People still cling to the hope that he comes back this summer. I for my part doubt it. Once he gets a taste of a winning environment in Pittsburgh, I doubt he'll come back to a club in the midst of a rebuild.

Expectations of the return are way too high. He was only on pace for 60 points this year over an 82 game schedule, the lowest total since 98-99. Add on he's 35 and UFA and you're not going to get a spectacular amount.
Scary thing is, the Flames got nearly the same amount that the Thrashers got for Marian Hossa and Iginla is having a worse season and is older than Hossa was at the time of the trade.

With the cap going down and Malkin needing to he reupped I can't really see him staying without leaving a lot of money on the table.

correct, but there are other options for him. If he doesn't win the cup with PIT this year, I'm sure he'll look for another team to do it.
After taking some time to think about it all, I think it's a decent deal. Not a great one, but a decent one. I like various elements of this deal ... I like that the 1st rounder is unconditional. I like that we didn't have to take a contract back and gained some flexibility for further trades and college UFAs. I like that at least one of the prospects coming back will turn pro, maybe even both. I like that Hanowski is a captain and leader for his team and that Agostino is scoring at a good pace. We'll see how they develop, but right now, I think it's a decent return for a rental.

Good Luck Iggy, thanks for the memories
I remain a Iginla fan; the Flames, not so much, Feaster...? I don't know if I would stop for him in a crosswalk
...questionable return...

Well, considering that they gave Joe Morrow straight up for Brendan (draft picks are basically a wash), and considering that Iginla >>>> B. Morrow, it's not crazy to assume that Pens would need to add (at least) a 1st to get Iginla. Morrow was also a rental (so same situtation), and despite Iginla being a better player, he got less in return?
Also, I can't speak of others, but my disdain for Feaster is not just because of this trade. Have people forgotten the whole RoR fiasco? Colorado would have gotten our 1st pick (more and more likely that it's a top 5) and our 3rd because of a technicality that he could have easily cleared up had he called the NHL head office. That alone should get him fired.
You're saying we shouldn't be outraged because our GM gave our franchise player for two (most likely) future 3rd liners and a (most likely) 30th overall pick, even though he had a better offer on the table? I should be happy about that?

Why was this trade made now? Did they even mention that?
Why not wait a few days and try to leverage more? It seems like Feaster was in a hurry to get a terrible deal done. What a terrible terrible negotiator

He propably (hopefully) wants to "get the dominoes falling" early, because he has a lot more to sell. Also, it was starting to drag along, I'm sure Iggy also just wanted to get it over with.

Writing was on the wall. Iggy had full NMC and would only go to PITT, which is clearly loading up for a cup run. Wait 4 days and that first might have. Een gone to add another piece. Did what had to be done.

I want to bring some attention to the "two b-level, no name prospects" for a second.
I know HF is plenty flawed in its ratings, but both Agostino & Hanowski are currently rated a 7.0C, a better rating than all of our current prospects not named Baertschi, Gaudreau, Jankowski or Reinhart.
Just because they are lesser known does not mean they are going to be nothing. Other "name" prospects that share a 7.0C rating throughout the league are John Gibson, Zac Dalpe, Jeremy Morin, Mark McNeill, Calvin Pickard, Duncan Siemens, Boone Jenner, Scott Glennie, Martin Frk, Tomas Jurko, Ryan Sproul, Xavier Ouellet, Kyle Rau, Linden Vey and Jake Muzzin. And higher than "name" prospects like Zemus Girgensons. I also stopped looking (alphabetically) at Los Angeles.
So maybe it's a situation where we should have some more faith in the scouting department as they probably know alot more about these kids than we do.

The twist is at about page 33/34 in case some want to go back and read that. It was pretty funny! I went to bed thinking Boston, and just had to see what happened when it ended up being Pittsburgh!
