I'm emotionally torn. I would love to see Iginla win the cup, and the Flames were classy enough to let him pick the deal.
But the return for Iginla is terrible, what is going to be a 30th pick, combined with a 3rd round player and a 5th round player that are not really anything that you build the future around and that we probably won't see in a best case scenario for years.
By being classy and basically letting Iginla make his own deal, they literally let Iginla burn this franchise to the ground on the way out the door. We were hoping that we would get assets that could kick off a rebuild, instead it looks like we got the old hope and prayer. This franchise didn't add anything great or incoming to the prospect base unless that 30th pick yields gold.
I want to see Iginla to win a cup, I think he's a classy guy, but he didn't do any flavors for the Flames today in terms of even leaving us, the fans who have probably spent millions on his jerseys and cheered him every step of the way.
We the fans who lived through the young guns era thought that was bad . . . well children that's going to be a walk in the park compared to what we're going to go through.
I don't know if I have the heart or the patience to live through that level of ineptitude again.
So long Iggy good luck, don't look back.

I think we got lucky. Iginla is in his twilight years and his trade wasn't going to get us anything more.
Some at CP don't get that. He isn't a 2004 Iginla.
With that said though, this organization had so many years to be ready for this and they were not prepared. THis team should have been in a position where they did not need to trade iginla because the future leader were already here. This team has nothing at the moment.

Agostino is a hard working forward, has good skill, tough, protects puck well but he's small. Average speed. Projects as a 3L forward.

I'm getting colder on this trade...

Man...I just read every post in this thread. Absolutely amazing. I for one am SO happy it's anyone BUT Boston. Win the cup with Crosby, and then come back to retire where you belong.

I have no problem with the return as when a club has 3 teams to negotiate with, the return will always be limited in comparison. I like NCAA players myself if they are the right guys. The 1st was never going to be a great position because of who the 3 teams were.
At this point we have to trust Weisbrod knowing enough about these guys through his scouting years and projects them to starters in the NHL.
|
Yeah, sure. I'm excited because I have actually watched both guys closely being a big fan of NCAA. I will not trust Weisbrod or anyone as it pertains to any prospects until we start to actually see some quality in that department. Some promising signs maybe, but this is the worst drafting organization in the league and has been for two decades so I have no faith in anyone until they show something.

No. They are now at 48. Neither prospect acquired has an NHL contract right now and this will be the case for as long as they are in college. Hankowski will be done with his college career as early as this weekend and as late as two weeks from now. Agostino has another year of eligibility which I expect him to fulfill.

Large shoes to fill, guys, but it's your destiny to be one of the franchise's all time greats.

Nope. 48. Both are NCAA players and cannot have contracts.
