I would rather have loud neighbours than anally retentive neighbours that complain about anything. I used to live in varsity near market mall and I had this one guy that would call and say my computer speakers were too loud and that cigarette smoke would come in through his dryer vent. The guy got on the condo board and sent us a fancy letter so we wrote one back to the condo board complaining about his harassment and insane demands and that put an end to it.

Or maybe Lantern can use large amounts of hallucinogens, and think his upstairs friend is The old Sweathog himself. So what if Greased Lightning wants to grind 4 hours a night. Ka - Chow.

I will give it some time and see if that can continue, I might also invest in some ear plugs. I think I might have pin pointed some of the weird sounds and the extra commotion, this is a pet friendly building... there is a good chance he has a big dog and that would explain the marathon stair running and weird change hitting the floor sound (dog tags hitting the floor as the dog plops down) that pops up in random places on the roof. The GF says I am obsessing over this now.. am I going crazy?
Is this what it feels like?

Well the more you obsess about it the harder it will be to find a solution because you almost start to try to hear it. Sounds like you got it worked it out. Just try not to think about it.

I live in an apartment too but my floors aren't exactly made of concrete, but my walls are. I can't hear anything from my neighbors next to me but everything above and sometimes below me.
I had an asian family of like 5 living in a two bedroom apartment and they would constantly leave their tv with subwoofer on playing asian music all the time. It was incredibly, incredibly annoying. This was probably the worst ones because they would stomp, screem etc. When I knocked on their door I heard them say "don't open it, they'll yell at you."
Give it a year, they leave. Now new tenants... things are great, can't hear anything until a few weeks in I hear something like a dog. Again my floors are extremely thin so I can even hear it when the dog toy hits the floor and the dog runs to get it and so forth. I think this is a similar problem, and my condo doesn't allow dogs but I didn't complain, I just went to my girlfriends and now, no dog. Life is great... for now. Or maybe I've just been at my condo too long and now is used to the noise. I know for a fact when I first moved in I don't think I slept at all for 3 weeks.
There's not too much you can do if they're not breaking the rules; parties during quiet time etc.

At least you can choose to ignore them. It's hard to ignore noise. I much rather anal retentive.
My girlfriend lives in a more 'senior' apartment and there's this one guy that spends his free time scoping the apartment. He'll know all our schedules, when we go to work, if we washed our car... creepy things like that. For the most part, we're quiet people and we try to obey the rules and they're pretty good about that. Just the occasional old lady yelling at us because we didn't sweep the balcony or we had our moving truck in the visitor parking and they'll tow it. But that stuff we can ignore, noise in my apartment is very hard to ignore.

I was thinking about sending CaptainCrunch up with a bottle of Baby Duck and a tube of KY to scar them for life... but the 6 pack idea seems more humane.

Take a sleep aid. I am a very light sleeper, I wake up to the sound of almost ANYTHING no matter what time it is. I take a sleep aid and I sleep right through most noises now.

So an update and some closure on the topic. It ended up being a puppy that was making the majority of the noise, constantly playing with toys it is weird the sounds that will travel through concrete, magnified by the high ceilings. The sound of his dog tags hitting the floor when he would lie down sounded like someone was dropping change from the top of a 10 foot ladder.
Anyway, every day this dog was going out and peeing on their balcony, this pee was then dripping off of their balcony and on to ours. Our balcony was literally covered in dog piss, I have pictures but they are at home. I eventually went up stairs to talk to the guy, he told me they had already been told it was time to leave for various other problems (letting their dog poop in the stair well instead of taking him outside, then leaving the poop was one of them).
So now it has been about 5 months since they were gone, the new neighbours are freakishly quiet.. I sometimes question whether someone actually lives up there or not and my balcony is dog piss free in 2013.

Nice, dude. It's amazing how inconsiderate some dog owners can be. Glad they moved, but with my luck they'll probably buy the house next door to me.

In a condo, you are always at the mercy of the lowest common denominator. I present exhibit A.
Make sure you fill in your survey to influence changes to the next Condo Act. Boards need more power to deal with people like this (or worse).

Yeah just what the world needs, condo boards and HOAs with more power they didn't earn.
For the record, NIMBYism should be dead.

Yeah, these sort of things are such a conundrum. On the one hand, yeah it's alway the LCD that make living in an otherwise perfect condo unbearable. On the other hand, old busy body ladies can make a career out of complaining about nonsense and getting up in yo' biznass. I think all issues should be decided in the CP court of public opinion. Would probably come to a better resolution than a condo board AGM that 7 people show up to.

FYP....
Seriously stop being so petty, taking jabs at dogs and their owners every chance you get. Its pathetic, we get it you hate dogs, grow up a little bit.
Back to the original post.. Glad to hear those people are gone.. One of the things I hated about living in an apartment were some of the weird, and inconsiderate people living in the building.
Part of the reason I refused to buy a condo when it was time to buy a place..

Remember that thread where you realized how annoying you were being about the topic of dogs?
You've forgotten.
