Could be he would not report to a team in the east. Or would not report to a non-contender. All someone could pick up on is "would not report if traded" and leave out the conditions for which he would not report.

not sure why everyone is so upset about this potential? a heavily front loaded contract to circumvent the cap always has this kind of risk attached to it.

If Kipper doesn't want to play out the last year of his contract, unfortunately, that's his prerogative to walk away...sucks for us tho

Not the players' problem. And before we get into union-bashing, anyone who knows a thing about labour history also knows that prior to unions, employers quite often did arbitrarily not pay employees.

Agreed, except he's not walking away at this point. If the rumour is true, he's simply manipulating the situation to alter the terms of his contract.

Probably a quarter of the story is being leaked so I doubt this is his full feelings. However, Kipper can do what he wants. Unlike all the other pylons we shuffled through here in the last 8 years, he never took a night off, even when his team did. Even when Keenan treated him like crap after the San Jose series, and threw him under the bus, he bit his lip, went fishing, and came back.

Kipper can do whatever he wants, even if the return was Edmonton's next 3 1st rounders. Love Iggy, but the man who has been committed way more is Kipper. He's done a lot for this city and team in a quiet and humble manor, and deserves to do whatever.

Let the man walk into the sunset on his own terms. Save the "He a pro being paid big bucks, so suck it up" for the Dion's and Kane's of the world.

well, one way or the other, the front loaded contract basically gives him all the leverage...depending on how the rest of the season goes down, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kipper retire if the do not report gets him too much grief.

for you and I 1.5 million is a lot of money. For Kipper? it appears that its not

Ya it sucks a bit for the Flames but he has every right to do it if he doesn't want to earn the money. For everything he's given to the franchise I would never even slightly hold it against him.

Why can he "do what he wants"? Cause he's a good hockey player? Cause he's a dad? Lots of good hockey players and Dad's in this league. Is it cool for them not to honor their GUARANTEED contracts or also manipulate their teams options by outing that you'll refuse to report if traded?

If this was an Oilers player this forum would be ripe with "haha Stupid Oilers" comments, and if a player the Flames wanted in a trade refused to report here people would be spewing venom out. But it's Kipper, I guess it must be different

My guess if this is true, Kipper will announce in the next day or 2, that this is his last season in the NHL and he wants to retire a flame.

Why the overreaction? I will wait and see what Kipper actually says when the media asks him about it.

Even the sportsnet crew didn't all agree to what Kypreos supposedly heard from his "source". Sounding more and more bogus by the hour.

Which media? You think any of the local guys would have the balls to ask?

I do agree that we are all possibly overreacting about something the media put out in a time where a lot of crap is being tossed into the winds.

Which kinda begs the question why is Kipper saying that, if he IS....if there ARE family reasons involved. And we know his wife gave birth to a child.

So he has a reason to say he doesn't want to be traded.

But I just don't see him saying, 'I won't report because of family issues'....but I will think about going to Chicago.

Kipper obviously was aware being traded was a possibility with his career, and part of the deal, that's why he negotiated an NMC for some of the years of his contract. Not like he didn't know what he was getting into.

4.5 years ago Kipper agreed to a guaranteed NHL contract to play hockey that will pay $35M dollars to do so. He also agreed that for that money, the Flames would not be allowed to trade him for the first 4 years of the deal with out his permission, but the last 2 he did not have that veto option. Now that he's played 75% of the time on his contract, and been paid ~90% of his money, he's decided he no longer "likes" the terms of the contract he signed. Not sure how anyone is defending this move, it's incredibly underhanded. If he wanted to control his playing desitination at the end of his contract as well, he should have negotiated

I must say I was expecting more on this subject from you, but I still laughed at your comment.

Miikka Kiprusoff has carried this team for nearly a decade and this is a rumor, I think he deserves at least some respect. Can we put away the pitchforks for now?

Kypreos allued to "complications" with the pregnancy, although also stated the baby was fine. If there truely are "complications" that have made him take this stance then depending on those reasons I could actually understand his stance.

That said, if those complications aren't enough to keep him from travelling with the team, then I must admit, I'm skeptical.
