I'll give Kypreos this, he was pretty adament, but reasoned it was because of the birth of his kid, saying it may be due to complications with his childs birth. He seemed to be guessing that though. I find that hard to believe the Flames would leak that info. I still think Nonis and crew are behind this rumour, given it's come from Kypreos and more importantly, Dreger.

Being traded to Edmonton would be. But seriously, if my employer moved me to another department or sent me to a different office that I wasn't keen on commuting to, the argument still stands. Kipper owes nothing to anybody but himself and his family.

Seriously, guys, it's a game. RELAX.

My guess is the original rumor is a bunch of crap.

Won't report? Really? Sure, he might not like it....being away from home and all, but not report?

Okay yes, that's what you're claiming, I know that already.

What I'm asking is why he seems to be this type of guy, to you?

So if you were under contract for another year you would not fulfull a contract that you agreed to and signed because you didn't want to move to another office even if you knew when you signed the contract after a certain time they could ask you to move to a different office? How would you feel if the company decided they were going to stop paying you halfway into your contract? It's not like teams can stop paying these guys when the contract is signed so if a player doesn't have a NTC he should fulfill his contract. Nobody can put a gun to his head and force him but it's the right thing to do.

I actually feel as though the media is trolling the fanbase really badly right now. Think about it. Rabid fans of a team with many assets to sell of at the trade deadline. They can throw out any outrageous rumor to drive ratings.

My guess is both Iginla and Kipper get traded at the deadline. Probably to teams that nobody thought about for players nobody thought were available.

Media has been picking on the organization for years. Nothing has changed. Now that the Flames are doing what the media has been saying they should be doing for years they are now critiquing what the Flames are asking for players and bringing up dirt on players that may or may not even be traded.

Meh his choice, he'll be helpful with Ramo anyways and we could possibly trade him next season if he plays again. If not retire a Flame, i'm okay with that.

This argument has never thrilled me. You can't always separate the man from the organization, the player from the jersey. I think we often forget that in this modern money driven sports world.

Sure, why not? I'm not an indentured servant. And I believe most employers have "probation" periods where they can choose to stop paying you if they choose. The NHL has a CBA, so it's a different set of rules, but that still doesn't mean a guy has to go against what he thinks is right for him and is family just to satisfy needs of a bunch of strangers.

Well shouldn't he have negotiated a NTC for the duration of his contract if he didn't want to ever be moved? Did the Flames ownership not live up to their end of the contract and pay Kipper a boatload of cash? Seems kind of one-sided to me as the Flames can't rip up the contract any time they want because they feel what's right for them may not be right for Kipper and who cares because Kipper is a stranger to the owners shelling him out millions.

Also you have to remember that you couldn't work anywhere else (another league) either because you didn't honour your contract with your last employer.

This to me signals that Kipper will not play next year. To not report because of family reasons is a little lame when he would be on the road for the majority of the rest of the season anyway. To me if this is indeed true he has pulled a Sundin and handcuffed a team that gave him a chance to be a # 1 goalie in this league and payed him really well. The fact his contract was front loaded as it was also showed good faith and gratitude from the Flames and now to me he is not returning the favour. To say he has carried this team is a bit of a lame argument as he was doing the job he was paid very very well to do.
I will say though that these are only my feelings if the report is indeed true......if not Kypreos should be ashamed to report it.

The owners could've negotiated that into the CBA if they really wanted to. We both know in the NFL they can do exactly what you just described.

This happens - regularly (to people in their 50s typically)

I just advised a client who was given a transfer to another city. He doesn't want to go. But he knows that if he doesn't, he will essentially be put on the fast track to being bought out (forced retirement) earlier than he would like - a total CLM.

It's a life-choice, nothing more.

Fans are getting bent out of shape because they want to see a return for him in a trade. All well and good, but he is under no obligation to oblige.

Sure they could negotiate that but we wouldn't be talking about hockey today because the lockout would still be going.
