If we are building for the future, I do very much suggest we do not trade a top prospect...such as Gaudreau.

One plays with Gaudreau at Boston College. I wouldn't put them as the corner piece but could be a good secondary prospect.

Mark McNeil is having a good year for the Raiders in the WHL, 6'2 200+, big center.
Most scouts project Mark McNeil as a Wayne Primeau type 4th line centre. That's his upside. He dropped very far in the draft because it is felt he is very limited offensively.

As far as center prospects, I saw some rumours Chicago has been offering Brandon Pirri in some trade proposals. Playmaker who puts up good but not earth-shattering numbers in the AHL. Prospect-wise I don't know if Chicago has all that much to offer us (outside of Saad & TT). Blackhawks fans online seem fed-up with Dave Bolland however. If management feels the same I'd take him on board as part of a retool. Maybe in a swap for one of our gazillion left wingers (Cammy?)

Interesting, I see more Keith than Wayne in that.

I don't know about all this 'list' business, but, it is too bad Anaheim isn't reportedly on it.

There is a team I think iginla would excel on and who would want iginla on a rental basis.

The guy use to be an exec at HNIC. It's clear that his media connections got him his current gig as a "hockey analyst". Jay Feaster has more hockey knowledge than this guy.

You got any sources for this? I watched this kid play quite a few games this year and he is head and shoulders above a lot of his peers. Including embarrassing on more than one occasion top 4 projected D man Duncan Siemens.

McNeil's production has gotten worse, or at best stayed the same in his two seasons since he was drafted.

That is a HUGE red flag. He should be dominating the WHL right now, he is the same age as Sven

He was drafted 18th and likely at best ranked 10th so I am not sure of him falling "very far."

And his upside is certainly much more than 4th liner. That may be what he ends up as but his upside is a 2nd line center.

I don't think it really matters who the Flames take back for Iginla, this is the asset that just keeps on giving and keeps getting better. We could trade Iginla straight up for Rich Peverley and he'd go on to score a 1,000 points for us as a no. 1 centre well into his 40's.

New Asset > Iginla > Nieuwendyk > Nilson

Maybe he has Getzlaf syndrome?
No idea, just throwing it out there.

Eric D on the Fan was talking about how he thought the flames needed to go for quality not quantity. I couldn't agree more. That whole x + x + x way of trading is ridiculous. Iggy was got for a trade. Trading Iggy needs to get an Iggy. If you can't get someone of that ilk, who cares? Bouwmeester and Cammalleri and Stempniak (for example) could net a bunch of picks and ok prospects. If you are trading Iggy, get someone of value. And include an asset if you need to.

I should correct myself: Mark McNeill's stock stratospherically rose throughout his draft year. By the month of the draft he was on most people's radar as a first round pick. The week before the draft some people had him as high as 13 or 14 (I seem to remember some having him in their top 10). I can't find my source as its buried in all the heaps of 2011 draft info, but I distinctly remember Dreger or someone of that ilk quoting a scout who projected McNeill as a Wayne Primeau defensive forward.

I admit he looks good on paper as a 6'2" centreman, but looking at his junior stats it concerns me when a player that physically dominant plateaus statistically as McNeill has. We already have Nemisz in our system who I think is a very similar prospect, and further along in his development despite recent setbacks.

That's right, Flames. Just keep icing the puck and you'll be fine.

Bolland looks sensational tonight. I'd be all over Bolland + a good prospect and pick. If this guy was higher up on the depth chart, I think he could be a huge player especially for the Flames who are so brutal down the middle and lack edgy type guys like him.

If it makes you feel any better, Elliot Friedman stated that he was originally told Anaheim was on the list of 4 teams from his sources. The organization has been doing a pretty good job of keeping everything hush at this point but the writing is definitely on the wall.

Getzlaf felt, rightly or wrongly, that he was trapped in the WHL. It's possible he's just bored, and Chicago wouldn't need to rush him, but Getzlaf was obviously capable of being the best junior player in the Country when he wanted to be. And he showed up at the WJHC.

McNeill doesn't seem like that guy.
