Why would we want to keep our import taxes on cheese? How is that a good thing at all?

It's only a good thing for the dairy farmers who are under the quota system. And the politicians are afraid of them.

Getting rid of it as part of a trade negotiation works for almost everyone. The EU (or TPP) gets better access to our market. Canadian consumers get cheaper EU products. Canada gets access to the EU markets. And the Harper government gets political cover from the trade deal vs. getting rid of supply management unilaterally.

I'm not a big fan of the quota system, but if you remove it, you're going to force a bunch of smaller quota owners to sell off to the big players because with the feed prices right now the only way to turn a profit is to own a lot of whatever animal we are talking about.

Small feedlots all over Canada are closing down because they can't afford to feed cattle anymore.

Same thing would happen with dairy farmers, etc, etc.

Oh you were being sarcastic. Yes, I hate the dairy supply management too. We completely agree!

Though you guys might enjoy this, a little mocking of Canada's fleet here in Iceland as a F-18 in exercises here has mechanical troubles.

Yup its going to happen more and more as the airframe is into the quick aging scenario now where it takes 10 times maintenance to flight time ratio

At the rate were going were going to just have to settle for a really good coast guard and search and rescue. This fighter jet replacement is getting too costly and now the shipbuilding is going over budget and there is talk about cutting the number of ships!

Smaller quota owners? They are few and far between. Don't believe the dairy board's propaganda. Their other big lie is that the US pays for cheap dairy via increased taxes that lead to subsidies. What they don't tell you is that dairy subsidies in the US range from only $4-$.004 per person anually:

http://farm.ewg.org/progdetail.php?f...progcode=dairy

Meanwhile, we're paying substantially extra per product.

If they're mocking hi tech fighter planes that have periodic mechanical troubles, they must have a pretty busy little publication.

Cute, but when a country has about six 40 year old F-15's as it's fighter fleet one shouldn't throw stones.

Iceland would have trouble beating Greenland in a war.

What? During Desert Storm it was the only fighter to have losses. three aircraft that I can remember and at least 2 crew members were killed(maybe more)

I will guarantee you the Eagle will be mothballed within 3 years...they are falling apart.

Wikipedia says in 2012 they had a standing army of 210 people, and a reserves force comprised of 170 individuals. That's pretty interesting.

I knew you meant that actually..I was just being an ass

They did very well in the Gulf War against some Migs but lets face it the Iraqi pilots were untrained idiots. and plus that was over 20 years ago.

It's a dinosaur now.
