I'm actually not in hysterics, I'm pretty calm right now, and really enjoying this topic of conversation. I'd say the only "joke" is quality of your contributions. So far you come with:
- Common guys family
- And "you're the joke"
What's next in the awesome flow of dialogue from you? "I know you are but what am I", or maybe "I am rubber you are glue". Really hard to fire one liners from the sideline like you are doing on this topic and play the "bigger man" or the "I have perspective" card. If you don't want to actually engage in the topic, that's cool, but stop chirping from the bench.

Who here would?
I don't (and I don't think any of us do) know if this is true, but if it is, good for him. There's more to life than your job.
The cool thing about being rich, and being the best person in the world at your job for a few years, is that you don't have to do what you don't want to. You can do whatever you want. Hell, that's the point.
Don't have to work anymore? Don't work. Don't want to move? Don't move. Have enough money to live for the rest of your life and don't need any more? Mission: Accomplished.
This guy doesn't owe the Flames, much less us, a damn thing.

I find it funny that we need players that want to be in Calgary, and now the 2 biggest superstars this team has had in a generation who were both dedicated to the city are both being ran out of town by a certain segment of fans.
If Kiprusoff is truly steadfast against a trade, the Flames should take it on the chin and spin it as proof that Calgary is a place you can go and not want to leave. There is a positive angle to this and it wouldn't be a bad idea to use it for image enhancement.

He's wouldn't refuse a trade he'd refuse to report to his new team.
Tiny yet big difference.

How petty have we become?

F*** them all. I hope each one is traded for whatever pick we can get for him. They are all paid contractors looking out for #1 - why should I care that they might be personally inconvenienced while earning their millions? You signed a contract - abide by it. Didn't want to be moved? Negotiate a NMC. Don't want to be away from child? Have your kid in June (or, in the Flames case, late April). I can't believe all these excuses for a guy that just screwed his team because he didn't want to be inconvenienced. If you want a safe secure job without travel/moves should have become a garbageman.

Talk about handcuffing yourself.

This I agree with, if the Flames went in eyes wide open on this, they have no one to blame but themselves. But what was the "under the table" deal? That he wouldn't play out his last year? If so, that's different than you also can't trade me in my second to last year. If Kipper wanted that luxury, he needed to negotiate that.

"Dick move" So classy, and smart (I assume you require green text to catch the sarcasm).
One would have to be incredibly thick or dense to look at the contract's pay structure and not see that Kipper has all the cards, regardless of NTC.
Kipper is doing a Feaster a favour by telling him in advance. Feaster cannot afford anymore public humiliation.
Can you imagine the mess this organization would have if Kipper said nothing, and then retired (which he has every right to do) the day after the trade?

If you know you're having a kid, why not tell management nine months ago that you don't want to be traded?
If Kipper pulled this crap to the surprise of the Flames, that's pretty bush league. He had a whopping nine months. In nine months you could travel to Mordor and back.

Way to go kipper!
|
That is one way to look at it. The other is that he is a party to a guaranteed employment contract. Kipper has been a solid player, one of the better goalies in the league, but during the times when he didn't display his "A" game, he still received his full salary. Part of the responsibility that comes with accepting guaranteed funds is also accepting the terms that come with that money. He does not have an ntc at this point, and thus is subject to being traded. He's making his play, which is his right, but understand that he accepting the benefits of his deal without honoring it's responsibilities.
Athletes do this all the time, so this should come as a surprise to nobody. I do see Kipper's side, but as a family man myself I think I would have to tell my family we're just going to have to deal with this for a few months and then reevaluate our situation.
The reality is he probably will not be in the NHL next year and this is his only means to try to get to a team of his choice to take a run at the cup. If this is in fact his motivation then I hope we can all say BRAVO KIPPER and Best of Luck. (Hope somehow you and Iggy can win it together)

Funny thing reading through this thread for the last five minutes and only being interrupted by Kerr shouting "save Kiprusoff" about 15 times on that 4 minute powerplay.

Miikka Kiprusoff has been an entire NHL roster for how many years now? If he wants to stay in Calgary, who are we to say no?

Maybe he really dislikes Phaneuf and that's why he was moved in the first place.

I have no interest in any current member of the Flames (player or management) beyond what they could return in a trade. Kipper is doing us a favour by leaking this? Yeah, a huge favour.

While I trust Kypreos' sources generally, I can't help but think of this pretty much reported yesterday by Dreger. Both Kypreos and Dreger used to work with Sportsnet here in Toronto, and it's fair to say they're good friends, but I can't help think they're using the same source. My guess? Nonis using his cousin (Dreger) to spread a false rumor to back away potential suitors, and lowering the Flames demands for him. I find it hard to believe Kiprusoff could do something like this to the organization. He's so innocent his farts don't even smell!
