With the market like this...trade everyone who can fetch a good return. Guys like Jbo, Cammalleri, Tanguay and Kipper would fetch a ton right now.
In theory if you do that you depresses the sellers market... you're simultaniously expanding supply (by offering more players) and reducing the demand upon trading them (by reducing the number of buyers). You'll be getting diminishing returns the more moves you (and others) make.
One of the 2nds is conditional on him re-signing with Pitt.
So in other words unless Murray has an outstanding playoffs it's likely going to be a single 2nd rounder. Still a pretty decent return for this type of player.

Great return and they are in the thick of a playoff race.
Just goes to show how inept our hockey operations department is.
Last time SJ was in town I watched Murray all game because I was bored, and also because he's so effin slow my grandma could skate past him. He reminded me of Dana Murzyn at the end of his career.
He's a TERRIBLE dman IMO. If he's netting 2 second round picks, Jbo is going to be worth at least double (if we shop him).
I think Murray is a little undervalued around here. I haven't watched him much at all this season but from what I remember of him he's a rock on the back end with size and good hockey sense. He also has had very good playoff pedigree as a key member of San Jose's defense in multiple playoff pushes, guy knows the drill on the playoffs. He'd fit into their top 6 easily and make it better no? Don't see the value hugely out of whack unless he's taken a significant step back this year.
this is bang on - yah , he's not the most fleet of foot - but he's smart - plays to his strengths and knows his limitations. despite his mobility , he doesnt really get burned much

Exactly.
Also, if you have too many picks in one draft, you spread your scouting staff thin and don't seem to make as many good decisions.
Finally, you also have to ice a hockey team each year.
What the Flames should be doing, IMO, is moving 2 or 3 guys out each year over teh next 3 or 4 years.
I could see Iginla, maybe Stempniak, and Bouwmeester this year. Then Kiprusoff, Cammalleri and Tanguay next year. Then Hudler, Glencross, and Giordano the following year. Wideman in year 4, etc.
Obviously there are always contingences, based on how people are playing, which prospects develop and become ready to take spots, etc. But that would be my basic plan: get an extra prospect and an extra couple picks each year. It also lets you see what needs you have, based on how guys are developing.

The Carolina Hurricanes made a hard pitch for the D Douglas Murray but were outbid by Pittsburgh's Ray Shero. #Tradetracker

The 2014 second-round pick San Jose got from Pittsburgh turns into a third-round pick if the Penguins don't re-sign Douglas Murray.

So at the very least it is a 2nd this year and a 3rd next year.
I think the pens are pretty certain that Boston is after Iggy badly and trying to make the smaller trades to prepare for Iginla in Boston
Sounds like Chiarelli is balking at the Flames asking price and Pittsburgh is definitely pushing him over the top. If one more contender in the East makes a bold move (i.e. Montreal), I think that will be the tipping point.
Of course, watch Calgary suddenly flip him to LA, and Boston fans screaming at Chiarelli that he missed the boat in relation to Pittsburgh / Montreal. That would actually be pretty funny.
For the record, I expect Iggy to end up in LA in short order, but that's just my hunch.

Seriously. I'm no scout, and I was about 4 or 5 heroins in, but it looked to me like Murray had the ankles of a 7 yr old. Although he is big, I'll give him that. He grabbed Baertschi behind the net and it looked like Fessik picking up Vissini.
I still think he's terrible though.

More on Murray deal: the 2nd pick in 2014 based on Pitt winning 2 playoff rounds OR resigning him and if neither occurs, it's a 3rd in 2014

It's not his fault he's the biggest or the strongest, he doesn't even exercise.
