He will be good as a 6/7 d-man, and remember that big strong d-men usually become much more effective come playoff time when the style of play changes.
Hal Gill has been the best example of this is the past. Never looks great in the regular season but always an asset in the playoffs.

SO if Morrow lands Morrow, does this mean they give up Maatta or Harrington for Murray?

Good news everybody! If Douglas Murray returns two 2nd round draft picks or a 2nd and a 3rd...it's glorious over-spending season in the NHL!

They are likely looking squarely at the Flames as an example of what's in store for that team if they continue to plod along with an aging roster that has a lot of key players on the decline. Start rebuilding while the team is still competitive in hopes they can avoid the depths of the standings by holding on too long.

Ups the trade value of our guys. But they need to be traded in order to execute the value.

I really don't like these 2 moves by Shero. If you are going to give up this much, why not set your sights a little higher?

Think teams would be afraid of the cap hits for next season with the cap going down next year.
I expect a two year re-tool for the Sharks.
Handzus, Clowe, Murray (maybe Boyle) this year.
Marleau, Thornton, Havlat, Stuart dealt next season.
Flames should be taking a similar approach.

Wow 2 second round picks. For lumbering Murray... this is one heck of a crazy trading season already.

Thornton and Marleau are both UFA's after next season. The plan is believed to be they will ship one of those two out at the deadline next year for a big return. I think they should trade Marleau out of the two next year as his production will drop quicker then Thornton's. But this team is starting to become Couture's.

On the one hand that's a steep price for Murray.
On the other hand, no prospects are involved so it's probably easier to stomach than dealing Morrow.
