Just shows how times have changed and they are used to the whole situation.

Yeah I would have gone into town and raided a store looking for a retail one seeing how that ring belonged to someone else. I guess the uncertainty about how long they may have to live with the upcoming clash may have played into him just working with what was available.
Bummed out about Merle dying because the Governor will likely exit next show meaning the show will lose two of it's most interesting characters.

It was time to get rid of Merle, he never could have rejoined the group and he got redemption. He died a hero. I thought it was well timed and a great ending.
The ring was kinda lame, but it's a pretty messed up world so as long as she's happy. Not like she has 10 girlfriends to tell her he's a deadbeat. Oh no he DIDN'T! haha.
I hope Michonne can stay with the group, I'm starting to warm up to her. Hope they keep the momentum and have a great finalle!

I thought it was a bit lame how Merle went out, but I have convinced myself he was drunk and not thinking straight.
I actually thought he would go out protecting someone, like Glenn, Maggie or Michone, trading his life for theirs, in either the impending firefight with Woodbury or with a zombie.

I had thought in the back of my head, if they want to end this thing why not just ambush the Governor at the 'meeting' and at the very least they lose their tactical leader. Merle put that plan into action, he took out what, like 6 guys? Maybe more?
In an army of what did they say previously, 30? 1/5 of the army wiped out by one man, not only is that a numbers loss but also a morale loss. Merle caused about as much damage possible, at least as much as he would have in the finale fight if not more. He knew he was an outsider and always would be an outsider, he said he was doing it for his brother, well now his brother has a weaker less optimistic opponent than he did before Merle went Rambo.
I thought it was great, now Daryle is pissed and ready to rip some heads off.

I thought it was very fitting the way Merle went out.
Michonne made him realize that the Governor turn him into the killer he was when she asked "how many of the 16 did you kill after you met him?"
He starts to feel guilt about it and tries to take out the man who did this to him.

But Merle was protecting the whole group, he was trying to kill the Governor and end the 'war' before anyone at the prison lost their lives. Sure Merle was more looking after Darryl, but Darryl wants to be at the prison with the group so Merle felt the need to protect all of them. Like GreenLantern said Merle killed 6 men, maybe even more and I assume the Governor brought his best men with him to the ambush so that's a big blow.

Also, Merle took out the cream of the crop. I would not suspect the Governor would bring the bottom of the barrel manpower wise. Because this was his move to kill off the "head" of Rick's group, it would have been his best "soldiers". What is left back at woodbury?

^^^^^ If anyone saw the sneak peek at the end of the Talking Dead, the Governor's forces seem to have been barely dented with Merle's actions. Seems like they have an entire platoon at hand to deal with the prison.

HAve we ever been given a number for the population of woodbury?
I remember at the barn dance between Rick and the Gov. that he mentioned he had what 50 fighters?

I think the point being made is that some of his more experienced gunners were killed. The big guy with the long hair and big arms, I have seen him used as a top man before and he was gunned down by Merle. A couple new guys were as well, which isn't a huge loss. But if you lose 2 or 3 of your more experienced fighters they are probably worth 5-6 of the newbies.
I won't be surprised if the Governor still has a huge army, essentially he will be telling people we have to deal with the prison or they will come kill us again. Kind of a Helms Deep scenerio, use all you got. Which is the same thing the people at the prison will be doing as well..

I think Michonne will understand tbh. As far as she knows (as per the dialogue between herself and Merle) is that Rick was offered the arrangement from The Govenor, she couldn't know that he actually decided to do it. Merle just told her the offer was made but Rick didn't "have the stones to do it". Even if she did, she has enough of a head on her shoulders to realize a sane person has to at least condsider it when the lives of his entire group is on the line against almost impossible odds.
What an unreal show this is. The end scene between walker Merle and Daryl was intense. I didn't even realize it was Merle at first, I was just laughing at that annoying kid getting chewed on and then "Holy ######!! That's Merle!!" Guess we should have seen that coming though, of course the Govenor isn't going to shoot him in the head, he turned Merle to piss off the group.
Amazing show, so bummed there is only 1 episode left this season.

They interviewed Michael Rooker on the Talking Dead last night. Normally I'm pretty meh about the show, but man is he an interesting guy. I noticed when a lot of actors talk about their characters, they talk about them as a 3rd person. Michael just kept saying "I" and "me" as if he really was Merle.
He said in "his" head, it was never a turn of conscience. He said he sorta had the plan to ambush the group the entire time. Storm the base like a beach front. Kill as many as he could and see if he could get out if alive. So likely he just used kidnapping Michonne as an out.
He also said everything he did was always for him and his brother. I believe he said "Durl and Murl... no.... Murl and Durl". Hahah

I'll have to re-watch the episode when Andrea and Michonne came to Woodbury. I thought they were told the population was around 30-40?
That would leave a group of 20-25 for the fighters of which about 12 have died so far. The sneek peek for next week showed the Governor rallying people saying 8 had been killed in the ambush.

He should've just suicide bombed the gate so the zombies would be able to enter, after he Pied Pipered them all there with some blaring Ted Nugent.

^^ The problem with doing that is you turn everybody at Woodbury against the prison group. You would show that the Governor is right; that they are a threat that needs to be eliminated.
However with the Governor and his main henchmen taken out; it is possible the two groups can work together on some common interests. Or at the very least leave each other alone.

Had Merle managed to kill the Governor they cold have gone into Woodbury and unearthed the heads in tanks and the torture room that's been hidden from the peoples sight. With him alive it isn't an option because anyone demanding to be shown what's behind doors would be killed, even in the sight of the populous.
The Governor has already shown the town his more ruthless side when he walked out and shot the guy who'd been bitten. No remorse and no need to answer to the people his reasoning.

Rick could tell Michonne that he told a few people about the Governor's proposal and Merle took it upon himself to carry out their end of the bargain. Michonne might believe it although there are a few people in the prison that knew the decision was made to sell out Michonne only to have Rick get cold feet.

Merle playing Motorhead, slowly gathering a pile of Walkers and leading them to the Governors men was pretty bad ass. One of the cooler moments on the show.
