His whole career? His first four seasons with the Nordiques they were one of the worst teams in the NHL, finishing last in the league three times. His last four in Colorado weren't exactly stacked either. So for eight seasons of his 20 year career, he was the best player on lousy teams.

Iginla will no doubt go down as a great player on not-so-great teams. But there's a lot of company in that group. Marcel Dionne. Bernie Federko. Dale Hawerchuk. Denis Savard. Mats Sundin.

Can't read too much into that list. For all we know maybe most of them were scouting some Blues players.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few teams are interested in Stempniak as he has been really good this year for the Flames. I actually would like to see him extended as if this team is going to maybe take a step back with a rebuild Stempniak would be good to have around as he's pretty versatile.

Or hanging out in between WHL playoff games.

Not likely that pro scouts are watching WHL games....really doesnt have anything to do with them.

Chances are that pro scouts from any team are doing two things...watching players from both teams playing in regards to possible deals as well as getting a book on shooters etc...but also putting together a scouting report on the teams as a whole in how they are playing in various situations. PP, PK, how they are breaking out of their zones, what they are deploying when up a goal as far as defensive systems, tendencies etc....lot of responsibilities for those guys.

Friedman and his 30 Thoughts:

Q: OK, what are the teams?
A: There are multiple reports of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins and Los Angeles Kings. I was nervous Saturday about specific teams because there was conflicting information. Initially, the four mentioned to me were Pittsburgh, Boston, Los Angeles and Anaheim Ducks. I don't like to guess and wasn't certain.

Here's the kicker, though. There are some excellent sources who say Iginla would go to the Vancouver Canucks.

Aside from maybe Dionne, the difference to me is this - none of those players were ever considered one of the best two or three players in the entire league for a time, if not the best. While Sakic had a more storied career than Iggy, at his physical peak there was not another player in the entire league I would've taken over Iggy. In 2004, Iggy was the best player in the entire NHL and could dominate games more than any other player aside from Forsberg who I'd also put in the same camp.

While Iggy turned into more of a pure scorer after the lockout, for a time he was a supremely talented and physical power forward. I would not discount the 'best player in the world' title when assessing Iggy's career. He was that, if only for a short time.

That's such a load of BS. I listened to that on the fan this AM as well.

Guys on the fan were talking about Kypreos and how he "confirmed" it, then Kypreos gets on the radio and starts talking in circles about who he "might" go to and possible returns. Not once did he say that he talked to anyone involved who 100% confirmed there was a mysterious "list", and no one actually asked how or when he supposedly confirmed ANYTHING. I try to ignore Kypreos as much as possible because it is actually very likely you lose brain cells when he talks.

I have no doubt that if Iginla is talking trade there is a "list" of teams, but Kypreos hasn't done F-all (IMO) to confirm anything, and is just making things up or trying to connect dots in as straight a line as possible.

The only other thing almost as annoying as listening to that dimwit Kypreos was listening to that Spector idiot and his deductive reasoning on why the Flames personnel are so silent, which means (obviously) there is a big trade on the horizon!

I can't believe people pay these guys sometimes.

Smyth made it a point not to sign with Calgary out of respect for Edmonton fans. I really doubt that after all this time, Iggy wouldn't do the same with Vancouver, especially when there are teams out there for him to join that probably have an equal, if not better chance at winning the cup.

Sportsnet hasn't confirmed anything. They are just repeating a rumor. Iginla himself said post game he doesn't know of any list.

Let's be clear. Iginla said that he didn't SAY anything about a list. Big difference than flat out denying it. And fwiw, Spector referred to the Flames shopping Iggy as a fact this morning on the fan. Not a solid confirmation, but they are presenting it as undoubtedly true at this point.

Out of all of the rumoured returns, I think I prefer Toffoli and Bernier from L.A. (presuming that this would enable the Flames to turn Kiprusoff into another prospect as well.) I'm frankly not that excited about a 29th or 30th overall pick coming back (as there is a very meaningful chance that such a pick turns into absolutely nothing.)

Hawerchuk was one of the top four or five players in the league for about five years or so. Dude scored over a 100 points six times (including a 130 point season), and over 90 four more times. Mostly on bad teams. And he was elite defensively.

Talked to an exec this am and said asking price to high for Iginla. #1 pick, Top prospect, and a secondary prospect.

Toffoli would be my preferred return for Iggy. I don't see the Kings giving up Bernier and Toffoli just for Iggy. The Flames would have to add.

Considering that the #1 pick is likely a 25th-30th overall pick, I think that's a fair asking price.

Yeah, I don't see them parting with both of those two either, they might part with Forbort though, considering the emergence of Voynov and Muzzin in the past calendar year.

Toffolli, Forbort and a pick, could be a nice return.
