They don't relate at all. We actually need NHL centers, we can't just give stajan away.

And, dont forget the draft pick that is likely to come back with the prospect. That pick is totally worthless to the Flames. We have had what, maybe 2 or 3 good picks in the past 20 years?
A rebuild/re-tool has to happen, but like you, I dont trust our management team to do it. I think their best chance at a successful retool is to keep Iginla, and once again, trade out all the other parts. But, I fear Feaster and Co. arent up to that task either.
Trade Iginla or not, I dont see this team getting any better until we have a new management team in place, sadly. So, I really want Iginla to retire a Flame - at least we'd have that. That said, I totally get it if he wants to move on.

This thread is now a thread bashing Matt Stajan? One of the only players to actually work his butt off night in and night out this season.
I want the high draft pick and all, but losing has really made some of the posters here go completely insane. In 3 years this place will be crazier than a mental institution.

I've seen glimpses of this team being very good. There's been no consistency, and I attribute that to a team adjusting to a new coach & coaching philosophy with a short training camp & a very short season. I'm sure the owners and management see it this way: we have games in hand on most everyone in the race. We're only 5 points out. 7 game home winning streak. Sort out the road record and suddenly we're back in the mix.
For some reason I don't think the owners are inclined to panic as much as some posters on this board do on a regular basis. If they're going to trade Iginla they are absolutely correct to ask for the Moon. If no one meets the asking price then we're still in the mix & haven't sold the heart and soul of the franchise.
The only scenario that would make me happy to see Iginla in another uniform would be one where the other team massively overpays. I want to see Dougie Hamilton in a Flaming C, for example. I can't see that happening any other way than when an Iginla is on the auction block.
Strange and interesting times to be a Flames fan. Anything could happen. We could even make the playoffs!

I thought that given his improved play, we'd be past the point where every second thread turned into a Stajan bashing. I guess I was wrong, some things will never change ... sad actually, I think he has been quite good this season.

The silence from the Flames says it all, Iginla will be (hopefully) moving on. Two prospects and a pick as rumoured would be a good start to get this team on the right track moving forward for many years to come. As a Flames fan I want this to happen for the future of the team.

You're overestimating how close we are to the playoffs. Five points doesn't sound like a lot if you think about it as 2 wins and an OT/SO loss, but five points at this point in the season is A LONG WAY OUT. Not only do the Flames have to make up that ground without very many games left, they have to leapfrog six other teams to get into 8th spot. Do you really see the Flames having a better record than Edmonton, Phoenix, Columbus, Nashville, Dallas AND San Jose for the next month? How about a SIGNIFICANTLY better record than the last four of those teams? This is the attitude that has squandered this team's opportunities to start acquiring assets for the last three years - please don't make the same mistake again. and Dougie Hamilton is not being included in any trade unless the Flames are the ones sending back picks, so you can dispel that notion.

correct. Last season, you needed 95 points in the WC, which translates to 55 points this season. The Flames would need a 12-3-3 run in their last 18 games to make that happen.

Why not compare to this season? Due to the disproportionate number of wins by the top 2 teams, the 8th and 9th place teams are sitting at 33 points in 31 or 32 in 30. On that basis, 52 points would do it.
That is 24 points in 18 games. 10-4-4, 12-6, whatever you like. Still really need to shoot for winning 2 of every 3.

Regardless of what happens, Iggy will always have a special place in our hearts. If he decides to go, instantly that team becomes my 2nd favorite team and I'll follow them closely until the season ends. I will never hold anything against Iginla no matter what he chooses to do. He has earned that right.
But I will NEVER forgive or forget what the management did to cause this. Year after year without a legit top line centre. Piss poor drafting. Throwing away the future for junk. Trading young established stars for garbage. Management should be ashamed for how this all played out. Iggy was supposed to be our Sakic. Our Yzerman who retired in the same silks that he wore since day 1. Our own personal HOF player who carved out his entire career in this city. That was supposed to be his legacy, and management screwed it up.
I will never forgive them for that.

Absolutely. Iginla should not be vilified no matter what he decides to do. This is management's mess.

Ya his 3 goals are so awesome this year. I say give him the C when we trade our best player.

Seriously? You make about as much sense as my fiancé telling me I don't need my 74 charger because I already have a truck. Two totally different things. This thread is about iginla go stajan bash on hf.

The problem isn't what record is necessary, it's what record is necessary for a team that hasn't put together a 3-game winning streak this year, hasn't won on the road in 10 games, and has looked like utter garbage more often than not recently.
It's not happening. The kind of run we'd need to go on is a tall order for very good teams and it's pretty clear this is not even an average team.
Looking at it dispassionately, the worst thing that could happen would be to go on a run and get close.

Why don't we pull a Mondano if we trade him? We trade him getting some rookie and pick while he helps the team in the playoffs and then when his contract expires and no one wants him and he decides to throw in the towel we sign him to a one day contract just to retire as a flame... Everyone's happy
