So much build up. This better be an amazing battle...or will they just talk about going to war some more and finish the season with a wedding?

Really annoyed with how Merle was killed off. For writers to have him go out like that is weak, you would expect him to put up a hell of a fight. And for god sakes how many more times is the governor gonna escape death? Good grief.

I thought that was another great episode, very powerful moment when Daryl finds Merle. Merle "atoning for his sins" and weakening the Governors forces. Rick realizing, everyone really, that staying together and safety in numbers is the way to survive.
I thought, since the re-emergence of Merle, that Daryl would have to kill him but that took me by surprise the way they did it. I really liked it.

Really? I thought it was a great way for him to go out... He takes out a tone of the Governors people, is probably pretty drunk by that time, gets jumped by a walker, kills the walker then gets jumped by the governor and a couple of guys, and loses.... its almost one of the most believable things that has happened this season. And Walker Merle just a bonus!

Merle went out like a champ! Good episode.
Few things I'm left wondering:
- How will Michonne respond to Rick giving her up and then changing his mind? Will she believe him?
- How will the group respond to Rick's 'ra ra' democratic speech? Will it make him look weak in their eyes?
- How will Karl react to his father even considering giving up Michonne after he said, "she's one of us"?
- How will Daryl respond after his brother death? Will he become soft or will he become ice cold? I'm guessing he'll try and kill the Governor at any cost.
- Why didn't Glenn take a knee to marry that beautiful girl?
- In the previews for next week, it looks like the prison is deserted. Where did they all go? Would they attack Woodbury, would they set up traps at the prison, would they just run (which would make for bad TV)?

Maybe the switch a roo? They go to Woodberry that is totally unguarded, find Andrea, exposé the gov to the people, they turn on him, and Gov is killed in a pitchfork and torch mob scene, dragging his body around town behind a Hum Vee.
Or they go on the run. Probably the later.

You are right. In of itself, the scene was realistic (but can you bite someones fingers clean off?). The problem is that the show otherwise consistently makes us think some characters are invincible. If the governor gets shot by a stray bullet in the upcoming war, it too would be realistic, but would it be satisfying?
I would think most people would want a more significant, personal ending to Merle, a character who has been around a long time, and cut off his own freakin hand to survive. I also think his personality conflicts and the relationship with his brother and everyone else was one of the more intriguing wild cards of the series.

I think this may have been partially answered in the sneak peek. Michonne tells Rick that the troops (I assume) "are ready", meaning there may have been forgiveness there.
However, Glen Mazzara (writer for the show) said in a recent interview to expect a crazy twist that no one expects for the season finale. So who really knows. I suspect this is when they're going to veer quite far from the comic version of events.

I was kinda mixed on this episode. I did like the way Merle went out, but found it disappointing that they got rid of him. Some of the best scenes lately have been with him. Merle and Daryl, Merle and Rick, Merle and Hershel, all great dialogue scenes.
I also feel this show is spinning it's wheels again. A lot of things or plot points happen just so they can be undone. Spend a bunch of time thinking about the deal, only to reneg, only to find out Merle took Michonne anyway, only to have Michonne come back. Just back and forth and back and forth with nothing really happening. Sure I guess it's set up so Merle can have his redemption moment, but I dunno. Just feels forced to me and like the writers are just filling time or episodes.
We'll see how this last episode goes, hopefully it's a doozy. I get the feeling that they'll leave the prison though. Not just because of the previews, but because a lot of people wanted to for a while, and Rick now reinstated the vote, so to speak. Also, I'm not sure where the show goes if they stay in the prison too much longer.

It's a ZA show, the whole point of it is that everyone is going to die at some point. Being disappointed that they killed someone off just means they played the role well, and with Merle's death comes more character development of Darryl so that's a plus.

Did anybody else find it a little sick how he obtained the ring? I get that there are limited choices in their world; but is getting a used diamond ring off a zombie by cutting off her fingers better than just making one with a nail or something?
