I would feel better if Maggie the Monkey and her spinning wheel were in charge at the trade deadline. Do you think she is still under contract with TSN?
After what happened with the O'Reilly fiasco and the ongoing performance of the team, Feaster is likely on a short leash and Ken King is playing this close to the chest.
One more gaff and I say Feaster is on the chopping block. Wouldn't be surprised if Weisbrod takes over the team.
If Weisbrod takes over the team the Flames should just give up now.

Just a thought, if the Flames were to fire Feaster, what do you guys think about Weisbrod taking over for GM?
That depends on the reasons for firing Feaster but I think it would make any Jay Feaster firing a pointless move. It seems like Weisbrod is the primary voice in all hockey-related decisions right now. All we here from Feaster is what Weisbrod told him and Weisbrod isn't just telling Feaster talents he uncovered but making suggestions like trading the team's first round pick. Of course this is what Weisbrod wanted. Weisbrod wanted to be more involved in his team's hockey-related decisions and he found a GM who wasn't himself a talent evaluator with a strong sense of what he wanted to do.
So no you don't fire Feaster and the chances are that everything that Feaster did was fully supported by or even suggested by Weisbrod.

Feaster needs to be fired for one reason. To get the job he campaigned on the basis that the Flames were a playoff team and did not need to rebuild. This was opposite to every opinion in the game. The results have shown him to either being ignorant of the truth, or a liar. Which of those reasons qualifies him to run the Flames?
The ROR offersheet, the center issues, drafting and contracts given out are all secondary to the main issue. He got the job by saying he was able to do something no else thought was possible and he failed. He should not be able to move the goalpost now and anyone arguing to give him more time to implement any other type of vision for this team is allowing themselves to be deceived. He does not deserve a chance to trade, draft or sign his way out of this.

Center issues plague many teams...ROR was missed by the Flames, AV's and the league....a lot of the crud Feaster inherited was from the Sutter era...I'll give him one more season. On side with you if nothing is done come April 3rd though.

One more season to do what? He got hired on the basis that this was a playoff team. Is it? Is this team getting closer or farther away from being the team he said it was?

One more season to transition it from the Sutter era....made progress with Wideman, bringing in Hartley, and making pitches for ROR, Brad Richards, etc...still annoyed at the Sarich signing though. I don't think the team's woes stem from the coach or GM ....its at the players...one year for the GM to clean it up.

Except his stated goal wasn't to transition, it was to get the team back into the playoffs. We've only gotten worse, so he's failed miserably in his stated goal. I don't agree with the direction of their goal, but that's what he intended to do.

Fair point....fully expect when the "shoe drops" to hear a playoffs failed speech from Feaster/King....it was a goal to get in the playoffs but it wasn't going to be done with Sutter's team. Jay changed the look and feel of this team...it didn't get in the playoffs...now the challenge is to be able to shift gears without knee-jerking. Not saying hang on to GM deadweight like the Loweless Oilers up north but give the current crew one more season.
But you're letting him move the goalposts! The reason he got the job in the first place was under the assumption that what we had was good enough contrary to everyone else. Franchise forward, Franchise goalie, head coach in Sutter who he backed and top 2 D in Gio and Bow. Now we are working for a clean sweep. So he either lied to get the job, or he doesn't know what he is talking about. So why are you going to give him another shot when you cant trust what he is selling you?

yup the goalposts have been ripped out of the ground and replanted but who do you get to come in and do better without killing another year? Add in this....its been pretty public that the ownership group is the one pulling the puppet strings..until those are cut you can put in whomever you want and the result will be the same. All I'm trying to point out is a change to the GM or coach doesn't address problem one...the players in the room. The cast was changed marginally and a new system put in place for less than 30 games now...its failing....so dont point the finger so much at the admin...point it more on the ice.
Again if there is nothing drastic done prior to April 3rd...I may be changing my own goalposts.

Thanks for the back and forth.
I can't think of anyone off the top of my head, but I'd prefer a new guy as opposed to a retread. But my lack of knowledge about GM prospects shouldn't preclude the flames from doing everything short of placing sonar buoys to find the man with the talent and vision to restore this franchise's dignity.
And I like some of the things Feaster's done. But I really don't want him at the helm going forward. Thanks for two solid draft classes.

He did not make progress, he did not even take one step back, he took the team 3 steps back. He accepted the challenge from ownership to take last years team and make it a playoff team. Feaster spent a lot of the owners money and failed miserably. He has said he is not the GM for a rebuild and it looks like his first shot at a re-tool was tragic.
The last time we switched GM's late in a season or right after the season was when Button was hired I think.
Button then proceeded to get rid of Giguere (protected Brathwaite in the expansion draft instead and dealt Giguere for a 2nd), Filip Kuba (protected Albelin over him), and dumped Martin St. Louis in the summer.
I'd be scared of exactly the same thing happening with a new GM who doesn't know what's in our system. He'll come in and get rid of some of the most promising guys.

Meh, I would put the chances of a new GM trading one of the Flames 6 or 7 (and this might be a stretch) legitimate NHL prospects who are under the age of 24 as highly unlikely.
