"the room" .. Didn't say which. Remember the ROR offer sheet? "a team" ... Smart

Yeah, it's great, I'm not sour in the slightest. The season has been over for me for a long time now.
It's frustrating watching these guys play like they are afraid they will be called off the ice in the middle of the game because they've been traded.
Just do it. Pull the trigger.
The team, and Iginla, are playing the same way they did before Darryl got canned.
Talk about a dark cloud...

I'm not outraged here. It is comical now. It was frustrating in 2010. Like I said above, not even at my most sarcastic would I have ever thought that would actually come out of the flames organization roughly a year to the day since the last time they boldly proclaimed the same load of garbage.
It is, literally, a joke now.
|
I doubt anyone in the flames organization thought enough about the tweet to be worried about that, nor should they, there are far bigger issues they should be focused on

The team is broken because of the exact opposite. 5 forwards and 5 dmen still have NTC/NMC's. They all have lists of teams that veto trades.
Kiprusoff can be moved right away, no clause.

I can't believe how much people are freaking out about this...
Maybe a reporter asked about possible trades that would bolster the Flames and Hartley's reply meant no, the guys in the room need to figure it out themselves.
Regardless, he wasn't the one that said it before. And to me, all he was trying to do was challenge his players

This quote is being taken out of context. I was surprised myself when he heard it, but ou could tell from the tone of voice that he was flabbergasted. I took it as a way to deal with all the speculation surrounding player movement and his response was to essentially say that we cant be distracted by it, and can control what we can control with the players we have.

I really think some of you are reading into this one too much.
He's talking on behalf of the players. He's saying that they can't look anywhere else, we have to find the answers. There's not going to be a savior coming in, we have to find the answers. If we're going to get out of this, we need to find it from this room.
From the outside looking in, yeah, it sure looks awful and yeah, they're not going to get out of this, but you don't want your players giving up. You want your players to continue to fight thru this.
Like a previous poster had said, if Feaster had said it, that's one thing, but coaches coach, managers manage. I really don't think there needs to be an outrage over a comment like this.
That's how I read it at least.

I agree. Not that big a deal. I feel sorry for Hartley. Leaving a great gig in Switzerland to put up with this group ( not team) of underachieving patchwork misfits. Say it again, not a worse constructed team in the NHL. Not Buffalo, not Florida, nor the Isles. Pathetic.

I am surprised about the over reaction in the thread. Until changes are made Hartley has to stay positive and has to say cliches like this. We all know it is over now and so do the players. It is going to be a crazy 2 weeks for this franchise I think. I could see big trades, a GM change I am prepared for anything

Unless Jay hoodwinked his buddy into it, no need to feel sorry for him.
The NHL may have changed since he was last here and let's be honest, Hartley won the Cup with Colorado 12 years ago and made the playoffs in the NHL as coach only once since then, losing in first round.
I agree Feaster has his blame in this too, though for different reasons. He's tried to be the anti Sutter with the roster and now the team is getting pushed around with no 3rd energy line.
He's also not stood up to the likely suggestions from above (but don't call it meddling) that has been aiding him in making decisions.

It's not that he's uttering cliches, it's that he chose the one line that is quite honestly so ridiculous at this point it only makes people laugh. You're telling me Hartley is not aware that saying such a thing would just sound stupid? Is this organization really that out of it? I thought they were good at the PR thing.

The Flames have some top players that resemble that resume...with and without the Cup. No?
And yes....he did hoodwink him. He is good at that.
