I dont blame him. I just think the Flames and Iggy need to break up. The relationship has run its course. It is better for both parties.

He's not holding anyone hostage either.
Iginla has never signed an 8 year contract.

Feaster should ask him to waive for sure, they are giant pussies if they do not.

Give me a break. I'll agree that lately he hasn't been what he used to be.
But, the guy brought the Flames from the worst team in the NHL to a Game 7 SCF appearance, which they should've won. He's been a role model, ambassador, and great player. I want him traded to a contender so he can lift the cup and then to re-sign here and retire as a Flame.

Meh, his linemate (Benn) was 5th round.

I think first rounders are overrated in individual drafts.

You need a glut of 3, 4, and 5th rounders.

The Flames were never ever the worst team in the NHL, they were never ever the 2nd worst, they were never ever even the 3rd, 4th or 5th worst. This year is a first for the team.

Yeah I agree. There is overlap, and there is also not overlap, so I should have been more clear. I meant that there are some people that, no matter how bad the team is or terrible the future is, still their primary reaction is to the defence of the captain that plays with little to no care.

Mike Vernon memories.

Loved when he won that cup with the Wings and scrapped Roy.

Vernon was basically run out of town.

I don't really see it to be honest. And actually even if people were, I'd kind of understand it. Iginla is starting to flirt with the realm of eroding his legacy.

People only have so much patience. All people ask pay for is an honest effort.

Iginla is likely going to be the best player to ever don the flaming C.

I do agree that his time is up, but the Flames aren't obligated to re-sign him either.

Either it's 7m that walks off the payroll, or a pick & player that might bust anyway.

I don't get why people worry about this so much. Even if he re-signs at 35+ it hopefully won't become a Pronger contract.

So? There's some people that will ignore anything positive a player has done and take every opportunity to deride them too.

Either way, bringing up a group of people the way you did makes it seem like you're implying specific posters belong in that group (otherwise it's a massive non-sequitur).

Which isn't a discussion, people don't like to be stereotyped. Reply to specific people or specific posts and specific ideas, not a group created for the purpose of criticizing.

for wanting a winning team?

for expecting passion and tenacity and character and pride?

for not just blindly paying money to millionaire sassy pants floater mcgees and being happy with zero coming back?

Fleury was not "chased" out of town, we couldn't afford him if I recall?

You could categorize this as chasing Iggy out of town, but for 3 seasons he hasn't cared anyway, so it's not like he'd be affected by it? It's not like the situation can get worse?

That is a nice scenario, they are dumb enough to sign him for another 4 years at 6 million a year and he gets a career ending injury and the Flames have 6 million on the cap for the remainder of the contract...

Iginla has been all class through this. His legacy is being eroded by the GM pulling a disappearing act and hanging him out to dry. Iginla is not being like Rick Nash, or chris bosh, or lebron.

If the organization was more forthright in this crisis there would be much less speculation and gossip tossed directly at Iginla.

I think that if this silence continues, the organization will feel the effects for years - those effects being the perception they hung Iginla out to dry at the end.

Your post doesn't make a lot of sense. If you can't understand why people care if Iginla is traded or not, I can't help you there either.

None of your post addresses what I was talking about?

trading a 22 year old NHL player for a draft pick is stupid

Columbus is poised to make the playoffs, that is one more "tanking" team that is finally having success. Makes a strong argument for rebuilding when every team that drafted high has turned their fortunes around while teams that refuse to rebuild far apart.
