I agree, he would fetch a good pick. I guess my concern is that I don't want the Flames to become a development team indefinitely . We already have a lack of centres that can come play in the big leagues immediately. Rather like the Detroit model, I think if the Flames can ice an average line up and slowly integrate their prospects and rookie into full time players, that would be the best in the long run. Also, the next few years after a blow up will be pretty rough, and may not be the best environment to develop prospects if the big team always loses

Iginla doesn't owe Flames fans anything else.
He missed winning a cup by a waved off goal.
11 straight seasons with 30+ goals.
Let him retire. Or use his NMC and go get a cup. The Flames need to decide what they are going to do, not Iginla.

Who was the clown calling into OT tonight ragging on Glencross and asking what he brings to the team?
The guy leads the team in goals this year! He is tied for 7th highest paid forward on the team, which by definition makes him a third line player.
What more can the guy do?

I honestly think it is embarrassing how Iginla is being vilified by a vocal group of the fan base.

I 100% agree. Calgary has done everything he has wanted for 10 years, it's time he paid them back. I know I don't purchase my season tickets because of Iginla, I purchase them because of NHL hockey.

Why?
Teams always find good players past the first round. You've got just as much a chance to hit on a better player than Backlund with a late 1st. Plus, you already know what Backlund brings. He's already injury prone.

I think it's embarassing the team Iggy is supposed to be leading is barely sitting above last in the NHL. Is Iggy only to blame? Nope, but he sure as heck doesn't inspire anyone to be better, this is a team with a losing culture and the captain has to shoulder a big part of that.
This is true for every other team in the NHL, I don't know why Iginla gets a pass on the Calgary Flames.

What will always be true is that there are Iginla fans, and then there are Flames fans. There's a huge difference.

I have not even seen anyone vilifying Iginla myself, but that is just me.

The only reason anyone could really "vilify" Iginla in this situation is because our coward management is forcing him to make the request instead of properly managing the team. It's not his responsibility and it's annoying how this is going down.

He blocked a shot with his foot 3 games ago, was in an air cast after the game, and played the next contest. That's the kind of player you want on your team.

Do you really think that? Or are you just making up groups so you can imply something negative about one?
Because it seems you're just trying to get a reaction.
If you really think that, it's easy to disprove since there are people who are both.

Look at it this way. How many times do you think a Flames GM has approached Iginla to waive his NMC?
If Feaster lets the meter run, people are going to crucify him. I don't think people who watch Iginla sign with another team will hate him. Iginla is only going to waive for a contender. Iginla is still playing off a contract he signed 8 seasons ago.
He's not holding anyone hostage either.

Backlund is a good player...doing better than most of the bottom 10 of his draft year and that is looking at it with highnsight

Agreed with nik. Anyway, Iginla is a passionless hockey player. People wouldn't "villify" him (they don't, but let's go with this because it's hilarious)... people wouldn't villify him if he acted like he gave a fata.

Almost certainly they will be 26th or higher.

Are you kidding yourself? Feaster will sit and do nothing. Ken King will overlook, and do nothing. Ownership will remain silent
