Really?

I said Iggy is getting over 5, probably over 6 if its a bidding war

I don't think I have ever actually had so much dislike for the Flames as I do this year. I hate the team that Feaster and co have assembled, I hate the way it's managed and I hate management for making me feel this way about my beloved Flames.
Even in the 7 year drought I never really felt this way because we weren't spoon fed garbage game after game, Those Flames team were never expected to do anything and they didn't. I was happy just to go to the game because at that time not every game was televised and you only had to read about the garbage in the paper and watch the high lights on TV.
I don't know why I keep watching them this year, maybe it's a sick, morbid fascination.

I agree with him.
I don't think I'd even offer him that contract. The time for Iginla on this Flames roster is over. Not to get him a cup or anything absurd like that, but because him being the team's captain and best player has been a failure and the situation isn't going to improve until someone else can take that mantle.
|
All the Flames need to do is let his contract run out then.
Iginla was never the problem with the way the Flames were built. Trading Iginla won't erase Calgary's abysmal drafting since the 80's. I guess if some see it as an addition by subtraction move, they shouldn't care about the return either.

THIS!
This is predictable which is why it's not upsetting.
It is making everyone look bad. The wingers look bad because there is no standard breakout for them to take advantage of. The wingers playing centre look bad because they aren't centres. The defenders look bad because there is no centres and the wingers who are filling in are likely making the situation worse in the defensive zone, and the goalie looks bad because the defensemen are trying to cover everyone and covering no one.
It's not even a bad group of centres. It's not even a group. It's a pair. There are only two of them.

Columbus going after the Chicago record? What is that, 12 straight games without a regulation loss?

I'm not terribly concerned about the return, you're right.

Well I will not be complaining about the return unless it is a couple old men. As long as it is prospects or picks I will be happy regardless.

2.5m is tied up in the pressbox in salary every game.
Money doesn't seem to matter. We could have re-signed Dave Gagner!

It's more complicated than that. It's asset management. I think those who think the Flames are in the big picture better off moving on without Iginla as C also recognize just letting him walk for nothing is poor asset management. Part of picking themselves up off the mat is going to be managing assets properly, meaning getting return youth/draft pick/future value for guys who may have more to offer a team that's in the playoff mix.
Time for a new GM for sure.

This lady is spot on in terms of STH's getting nothing with their tickets beyond tickets. Flames STH used to get a lot of side perks.

I want Iginla to be traded to a contender then to resign with the Flames.
That way, we get great assets for the rental and he gets to retire as a Flames. I'd resign him at 4 years $4-4.5 million per year.

All this talk about Iginla and company wanting to leave and be on a winning team, but few on this team have played like winners in quite some time. If the problem is really in the locker room, why would these guys care about going to a winning team? They seem pretty comfortable losing to me. I don't think he or others have the drive to care about whether they're on a contender or not at this point.

I'm actually done with the Flames until Iginla is gone. And I don't want him back. I honestly don't even care anymore, and find it extremely difficult to watch anything beyond a period.
It's that ridiculous of a situation. He should have been traded 2 years ago. At this point it's like taking the patient to the hospital when they're dead.
This team is so lazy. Embarrassing.

Iginla is past his trade deadline, unless you can convince a playoff team they need that final piece.
The Flames have missed trading him on a couple of occasions. This is the first season he won't pot 30+, possibly for the rest of his career if he stays.

Don't agree on trading Backlund. I agree on trading when value is high, but if the Flames are focused on young players to make the new generation, Backlund is someone you keep (unless the return is of equal current value, like another young centre but better potential). Older players that won't be in the core in the next 5 years, sure, but otherwise trading for the sake of trading isn't a good idea. For blowing everything up and having a fire sale, there is no team that has ever iced a complete line up of young players and rookies and done well.

I think this is unlikely unless it's a retirement year. Once the threshold is crossed, I think he's gone for good.

I think Detroit would pay a late 1st for Backlund. It still blows my mind that Paul Gaustad got a late 1st.

Iginla deserves NOTHING
All he has to show for is Personal Accomplishments.
No TEAM accomplishments with the Flames except 1 appearance past the first round.
We dont owe him a trade to a contender.
He owes us a trade to the highest bidder
