Well, at least they pushed back hard in the third, flooding the Nashville net with 7 shots on goal. If it wasn't for Rinne, Flames would have come back easily to win this one.
lol the Oilers have 3 points on the Flames and have played one more game...well clear of the Flames...not to mention they play each other 3 more times and the Flames have the tie breaker
After tomorrow nights loss the oilers will be 3 points up an the flames will have no games in hand. I have the chances of the flames winning on Sunday against the blues at zero. That should end this crazy discussion of the flames finishing higher than the oilers

just shut up...to say the Oilers are well clear of the Flames is just plain stupid

I'm not sure why that matters? Begin and Bouma play differently.
If Begin was brought in to replace Bouma than the Flames are stupider than I thought.
Lets face it, begin is on the team because of his pal Hartley.
Do they really play THAT differently though? I'm sure there are discrepancies in what they bring to the table, but let's be honest, they are meant to fill the same role on this team.
Just one is cooler......and faster.........and tougher........and better..............and less insecure........and just more cool.

well at least the irrational and subjective opinion that the Oilers are a crappy team is still alive and well with some. The Oilers are a true bubble team, a 7-11 team. The Flames are a team that will and should compete for the 1st overall draft pick. I would be shocked if the Flames ever come close to the Oilers again. It is apropos that the Flames are playing the Oilers on April Fools Day.

Holy man, get out of here.
The Oilers build a colossal 3 point gap and suddenly we're using words like "ever again"? What a joke comment.

While I don't disagree that the Flames are a lottery team, exactly what have the Oliers done to make them a legit bubble team this year, as they sit in 13th place, 3 points up on Calgary having played one extra game?
In fact, I think the Flames picked the perfect season to suck. I think they're capable of far better than a 14-15 place finish (yet no better than a bubble team). But due to a lot of factors including inconsistency, goaltending/injuries, coaching/system changes, and bad bounces or even a lack of bounces early in the year, it's sort of fallen apart on them pretty quickly. But we're 20 games from this season being history. Potentially pretty short pain here. And a strong and talented draft to be gifted a top 5 pick in. Could bode well for a quick bounce back if the cards are played right.

Reality says no, 13th in the West says not a bubble team, I don't think they've been anywhere near 11th since the second week of the season.
You're becoming a real caricature of a hockey fan.
Reality says that both the Flames and Oilers are god awful teams. The difference is that everyone in the media and their fan base had Edmonton as a team that would be in the playoff mix and the Flames would be god awful. The fact that the Oilers after all of their top draft picks are still god awful is the only bright life in a poopy season.

It's almost shocking that the Oilers might actually finish ahead of Calgary, honestly. That hasn't happened since 2002 and they've drafted 1st overall 3 straight times now.
It's about time the Oilers have the semblance of a competitive team to some.
The head to head record is downright laughable man. Even with the junk/rickety/broken down squad the Flames ice every game.

I said the Oilers were a 7-11 team. They currently are 1 point out of 11th with a two games in hand on the 12th and 11th place teams. Winning percentage in the West has the Oilers tied for 10th. The Oilers have a fairly easy schedule left, particularly in the next 14 games. I suspect the last 5 games of the year will kill their playoff chances, but I would not be surprised to see them right in the thick of things at the 43 game mark given the weak schedule they have in those 14 games (Flames 3 times, Preds, Blue Jackets, Avs). I could easily see them going 8-5-1 over that stretch, only to go 2-3 down the stretch to miss the playoffs.
Flames have a more difficult schedule, more road games and have shown absolutely no ability to fight through adversity, all of which is different from the Oilers this year. If the Flames started a 9 game road trip 1-4-2 you can bet they would finish that road trip 1-6-2. I think people are going to be disturbingly surprised at the end of the year as to where the Oilers finish. They have fought through a number of injuries, a tougher schedule and are still in the race. I thought that 9 game road trip would kill them, I really thought it would when they went 1-4-2 over the first 7 and had Chicago for game 8, but they seem to be resilient this year, not to the point of making the playoffs in my opinion, but still a legitimate bubble team.

And you are a typical Flames fanatic that has no sense of objectivity. If the Flames were tied for 10th in terms of winning percentage in the western conference, you can sure as hell bet that you would be saying that the Flames were a bubble team. If the use of simple math makes me a real caricature of a hockey fan, then I am guilty as charged.
At least the use of math is no longer ridiculed on this board in relation to the Flames, just when one analyzes another team.

EddyBeers is over-the-top, as usual. The oilers are a 12th to 14th place team. Again. Easy schedule? Take a look at their last 5 home games. They will be lucky to win 1.
And let's not get carried away with saying the Flames 2013 = Oilers 2010-2012
The Oilers were winning barely 20 games a year in an 82 game sched. Some years they were 10 or more pts behind 29th. They didn't have to sell anyone to get there. They just sucked. Hard.
By losing 5 of our last 7 in regulation, the Flames are, for the first time in years, in a position to identify themselves as sellers at the deadline. That may be a blessing in disguise. But they are still only 2 games below .500. They will likely be above .500 again this year.
The Flames have to make some tough decisions regarding Iggy & Kipper. Whether they stay or go, this team will not be dependent on the old warriors to carry the mail.
The Flames may draft top 10 this year. They will likely seek out bona fide goaltending help by next fall. They may stock some of the cupboards at the deadline. But they are nowhere near an Oilers level of suckage.

The Flames should have been sellers the past two years. It was quite obvious then and now. Furthermore, the decision was straightforward then and even more simple now. It just happens that we have some the worst management in the league.
It's funny how this team completely tanks when they reach any milestones that probably go unnoticed in most places.
Soon as they get within a game of .500 they tank, soon as the get to .500, they really tank.
In previous years when they were better than they are now, if they got to that magical 8th spot they would go on a 4 points in 10 games run.
