Look at the inept fools that are going to do the drafting if we finish low. They will probably have some other High School wonder kid in mind, and go off the board with the 1st or 2nd pick thinking they are so intellectually honest.
Don't like Jankowski, who would you have preferred?
Who has come in and just lit it up, and been a sure thing, game breaker? Every team seems to pick one of these guys up every 5 years or so. Who have we drafted that is a top tier impact player?
This regime has only had two drafts. Seems are placing past failings at the feet of this group

Huh?
Button's drafts have been decent lately I've thought. Nothing on Weisbrod's resume to indicate he's inept. They've never had a top 5 pick to work with so there's no evidence to indicate they'd screw one up.
Bitter much?

I never said I don't like the kid. But it was a very risky pick, for a horrible team like the Flames, who need NHL ready players sooner, than later. There is no guarantee he even has to sign with us if he decides to pull the ole College loophole thingy.

The ol' College loophole that the kid in Edmonton used won't apply to Jankowski.

Meh, not going that extra step seems just like denial to make yourself feel better. Its like the fat chick who gets the super sized combo meal, but gets diet coke to make it seem like she's trying to be sensible.
We 're all cheering for this team to move forward and get better...we just disagree with the timeline and the way to go about it. I think the more we lose now, the sooner we get better. So yeah, I can't say Im not glad to see them lose these games. Im so friggin tired of seeing the same 7th-12th place team year after year after year, that Im willing to go Oilahz on this season. Tough love is the only way ownership and management will do something drastic. It needs to become stupidly obvious. There need to be 29 teams ahead of us.
Honestly, right now the only thing that's keeping me interested is the potential of a high draft pick and the potential new direction.
I think it's more like telling yourself, once I hit 200lbs, I really need to diet and get down to 180lbs and instead of eating sensibly, you eat garbage and toil around at 195lbs thinking that you aren't that fat so you never actually get down to 180.
What you would prefer is the person go on like a 2 week binge and get up to 200 so they can start losing weight already.
Anyone know what teams in the 2-5 range usually give up to move up to 1st?
The only time I can remember it actually happening was 2002.
Florida traded #1 overall to Columbus for #3 and got the option to swap their respective 1st rounders the following year. That's a pretty big return in reality.
In addition, Florida traded a 3rd rounder and a 4th rounder to Atlanta in exchange for their promise not to pick Bouwmeester #2 overall. Which is not so great... Atlanta chose Lehtonen instead.

I understand where Pylon is coming from. If ever there was a team that could screw up a seemingly sure thing, it's the Flames.
I bet every team whose every drafted first overall thought that. They all got there by poor records and bad management. No one ever landed in last place and thought what a well managed team they had.

1998 with the Sedins and then Atlanta and Stefan? I forget how that all shook out. Tampa had first overall and ended up trading out of the first entirely.

Nope. I am apathetic now.
I only remain as a paying fan now, so I can go to the Dome and see the great players other teams have, and enjoy the game in general. That is how I justify shelling out money every year to watch a bunch of losers lose. I pay to see the competitors, not the competition.

That's an emotional response.
We don't have Milbury at the helm. I don't think they're going to trade Jokinen and Luongo for Kvasha and Parrish and then draft Dipietro.
When have the Flames screwed up a top 5 draft pick? Never. Because we've never had one. And the years we picked top 6 weren't exactly great years. Last time the Flames had a high pick in a great draft was Phaneuf and it sounds like Sutter insisted we take a defenseman if one of the top 3 was available. Lots of rumours that if they were all gone we would've taken Mike Richards which would've worked out fine. It's not like we took Jessiman top 15. Or traded down and took a bust (Pouliot) while Parise, Getzlaf, Richards, Perry, etc were on the board.

What have those players done in the NHL to make you say that?
That's also suggesting Ryan O'Reily wouldn't have improved the Flames in anyway, shape or form.
Ironic though that he hasn't helped the Avs much at all. I tend to think he wouldn't have made much of a difference with the Flames at least this season as the ship has been taking water all season and I don't think ROR was going to be able to come off his couch and plug it. Kind of crazy the Flames were willing to give up their first round pick for one more season of ROR under contract. This 'all-in' mentality of the organization needs to end and it needs to end right now.

The point I am making Jiri, is we don't know if they (the current regime) have drafted well or not. There are no stats to back anything up. For all we know, nobody ever plays an NHL game.
