I'd go with Barkov personally. He's destroying the SM-Liiga, He's 6-2 205, and he's a center. He has almost twenty more points than both Joel Armia and Teuvo Teravainen in the same league this season, and those guys were both players that some fans wanted each of the last two years.

Could you imagine having Barkov and Jankowski as your top two centers, both 6-2, and 6-3 and eventually both being roughly 220 pounds. That's something to build around.

If it wasn't so crucial for the franchise to get a stud to build around, I could understand the sentiment. However, this is such a key moment in the teams future that any wrong or bad move could create years of futility.

Getting a top 3 pick this draft is about as much of a lock to land a franchise player as any years previous.

I am cheering for failure NOW in hopes of success for the future.

Ya I don't go into games hoping for a loss but when we do lose it doesn't bug me at all anymore.

If the flames get a legitimate #1 center in this draft, they would be laughing. That also takes a lot of pressure of Jankowski to be a legit #1, which, although I think he has high upside, might be overly optimistic.

Agreed. This is our best chance at drafting a superstar or franchise player. Heck we may end up with the highest draft position in franchise history. It happens to coincide with a draft that has a strong top end.

I can't help but think that finishing bottom 5 and getting a blue chip/stud prospect would be great for the Flames short and long term future. We need a star to replace Iginla, this draft seems our best bet at acquiring one.

Cheering for losing is probably going too far but I do have to say I am relieved every time they don't pull out a lucky undeserved win out of their collective behinds only to give Feaster and co. a chance to say they are "this close"

Picking top 3 is great but what cannot be overlooked is that finishing dead last in the conference/league does send a message so strong that not even Flames brain trust can ignore it.

Reality of a last place will bitch-slap the braintrust of this team and hopefuly wake them up and honestly thats the only way we can expect to break this vicious spiral to the bottom we've been on the last couple of years.

Management was not able to see that this team is rotten and nothing but a complete collapse to the bottom of the league will take away their last dumb excuse of "having the right pieces, only a tweak or two being away"

I'm kind of torn. On one hand, I cheer for the Flames to win every time as well. On the other hand, I've come to accept that this team is still in a death spiral and the higher the pick the better, so logically doesn't it make some sense to cheer for losses? Ugh, I feel like I need a shower after saying that.

On another note, if they finish bottom 3 and don't pick a centre, I'm going to completely lose my mind.

Meh, not going that extra step seems just like denial to make yourself feel better. Its like the fat chick who gets the super sized combo meal, but gets diet coke to make it seem like she's trying to be sensible.

We 're all cheering for this team to move forward and get better...we just disagree with the timeline and the way to go about it. I think the more we lose now, the sooner we get better. So yeah, I can't say Im not glad to see them lose these games. Im so friggin tired of seeing the same 7th-12th place team year after year after year, that Im willing to go Oilahz on this season. Tough love is the only way ownership and management will do something drastic. It needs to become stupidly obvious. There need to be 29 teams ahead of us.

Honestly, right now the only thing that's keeping me interested is the potential of a high draft pick and the potential new direction.

Honestly I know right now being over negative is the thing to do but I have no clue what evidence there is that they would mess up a high pick particularly since drafts under this regime have seemed pretty good.

Who has come in and just lit it up, and been a sure thing, game breaker? Every team seems to pick one of these guys up every 5 years or so. Who have we drafted that is a top tier impact player?

The key is this team finally appears to be off the treadmill where they're not good enough to make the playoffs and not good enough to get a clear difference maker in the draft. This is the year to suffer. Short season, great prospects in the top 5, decent tradeable assets and an interesting summer with the cap lowering. I think there are going to be a lot of players on the market at the draft. This team can be in the mix as soon as next season if they play it right. That might be overly optimistic but I can see it happening if we load up on picks and prospects at the deadline and open up a ton of cap space
