Downloaded the PS3 version yesterday. The new maps are a blast and huge. Some were concerned with the large size and 24 player limit on consoles that this DLC would be boring, hard to find action, etc. I find this isn't the case, lots of vehicles, quick re-spawn for the vehicles, and the cool maps make it a lot of fun. The tank destroyers are fast and fun to drive. First map I had 2 roadkills with the quad, (BC2 memories) LOL.

Anyone else pick up the Aftermath DLC? The new maps are pretty fun. I enjoy trying to hold the tower on Monolith.

I've been playing it a fair bit and enjoy it the most out of all the expansions.

I've been having a blast with BF3 lately. Recon is the only class I have anything left to unlock so I've been playing that class. WW2 style! Bolt action riffle with iron sights/RDS. It's surprisingly effective. I usually end up with the highest kills in a round and I am playing like an assault. I don't know when bolt actions became one shot kills to the chest on HC but I am liking it.

I haven't been able to play BF3 lately. When I click quick match, the "open game manager" message comes up and then nothing happens. I searched the web and was told to "repair" the install which I did but the same "open game manager" bug still bites. Any suggestions?

Man, EA/Origin can really go suck a bag of dicks sometimes. They have Battlefield 3: Premium on sale for $39.99 right now, yet the DLC on PS3 (if you've already purchased BF3) is still $49.99. Stupid.

Meh. If people are stupid enough to buy it, then good for them. I'm not paying that kind of price for it.

So with End Game having been released yesterday that officially brings Battlefield 3 to a close. I have yet to take the final DLC for a spin but I hope to do so tonight. I’ve logged over a 100 hours in BF3 and with Battlefield 4’s announcement rumored to be later this month I’ve been thinking about the series and where it is headed. I’ve enjoyed BF3, but there are plenty of things that need to be improved/removed in the sequel.
Speaking with a buddy on the weekend we were both in agreement that we wouldn’t even consider purchasing BF4 unless the game undergoes some serious design changes. If DICE gives us Battlefield 3.5 that just isn’t going to cut it. They’ve decided to stay in the modern setting so they need to produce a sequel that is a significant improvement. Without turning this into a CoD bashing post, I honestly feel that BF3 was catered to a totally different crowd than BF2 fans. When I originally pictured the third installment of the series I imagined Battlefield 2 with Bad Company 2 scale destruction. What we were given however, was something far less satisfying.
BF3 maps are smaller in most cases and a large number of them are functionally garbage as Battlefield maps. To me, this is where BF4 has a chance to wow me. They need to make fun maps that aren’t Call of Duty style maps. I am talking no Operation Metro, Grand Bazaar, Seine Crossing or any of the Close Quarters DLC maps. You can have fun infantry only maps but they should be done similar to ones found in BC2. Fighting was intense and there were far less bottlenecks that you’d be forced into. There are so many stalemate areas in the aforementioned BF3 maps that winning almost becomes an impossibility. In the CQ maps you just end up running in circles like any of the CoD maps.
I want to see destruction play an important role in combat again and not in the cosmetic or superficial way it is employed in BF3. Bad Company 2 set the bar high in terms of destruction. For me, the highlight of BC2 was trying to fight your way out of building that was in the process of collapsing. That mad scramble as you rushed to jump out of the second or third story before it all came tumbling down on you was heart pounding. I want to see maps like Cold War, where you could not only destroy buildings, but you could level the entire village. Give us destruction that allows the player to open up new avenues of attack or to neutralize defensive/offensive positions.
I’d like to see the 6 man squads return from BF2. They also need to put VOIP into BF4. Considering the game is so team oriented how they decided to leave out a built in voice chat boggles the mind. Get rid of the support’s mortar and give the recon his binoculars with mortar strike back.
I had intended this to be more of final review of Battlefield 3 and its Premium DLC service and got way off topic. Overall, I think the level and quality of post release content DICE provided for BF3 was really good. Premium was a bargain if you had intended to buy all of the DLC. The only one I could have done without would have been CQ (but it was also the only DLC that came with additional weapons). I still feel a little miffed about having to pay the full price for premium when I got the first DLC as a pre-order bonus. I’d definitely consider getting premium again although I’d probably hold off for a bit and grab it when it’s on sale. With that said, I’d be interested to hear what others think about the upcoming BF4. Especially those who stopped playing 3 long ago.

I've been playing more BF1942 (yes the original) than BF3, so I hope BF4 is basically a remake of BF1942 (which it won't be I'm sure).
Let me know how CTF is, I might be back in BF3 if CTF is fun.

Honestly, I would love for a new BF game set in WWII. I actually never tired of that setting. Every element of modern warfare was present in WWII. You've still got tanks, planes, artillery, automatic weapons etc. But there are no auto-lock missiles. No night vision/thermal scopes. Just simplistic weapon systems.

I want to see Battlefield civil war.
Just think of the frustrated chatter.
OMG my rifle can only hit a guy if he's within 10 feet and the ball bounced off of his coat
Or have the mechanics that you have to reload, where you have to find the ball, tear the powder bag with your teeth ram the whole mess in and then shoot and repeat.
More comments "How come I'm always in the front row of the firing line"
Bayonet charges and using your rifle as a baseball bat.
Challenge your opponent to a pistol duel in exciting arena play.
If would be awesome.

It's been tried.
There's an American Civil War mod for Mount And Blade: Warband (which is an awesomely fun game on it's own) but they've been in development for 3 years and I don't think they're released a public alpha/beta yet.

sure you're not thinking of the revolutionary war era? by the civil war they had rifled barrels and the weapons were far more deadly and accurate as a result

Well I had a chance to play the recent DLC over the weekend. I only played Conquest and Rush so I can't comment on the new CTF and Air Superiority modes. However, I still had a pretty fun time on the new maps.
Kiasar Railroad: Fairly large map with plenty of cover. I only saw this one a few times but it seemed like a balanced map for Rush and Conquest.
Nebandan Flats: Large desert map. A very rough start for attackers in Rush mode. You have to run over open ground towards a large warehouse where both MCOMs are located inside. If you have a decent team you can advance fairly easily with smoke and you have plenty of room to flank on the sides.
Operation Riverside: I really like this map. Nice layout of capture points and Rush was fun.
Sabalan Pipeline: I played a lot of rounds on this map. Somewhat smaller winter map. Good on Conquest and so-so on Rush. Like Nebandan, the start is fairly rough for the attackers except you have more cover.
Overall I think this last DLC release is pretty solid. It reminds me more of classic BF2 maps than anything else they've released. The bikes are way more fun than I thought they'd be. I was getting plenty of multi-kills by strapping C4 on my bike and driving it into the side of a tank or APC.
In my opinion:
Back to Karkland: 9/10 (Nice classic maps re-imagined. Wasn't a huge fan of the Wake Island remake but really enjoyed the other 3).
Close Quarters: 7/10 (The maps were pure CoD which I could have done without. However, this was the only DLC to come with additional weapons and the maps were actually a decent diverson from regular Battlefield.)
Armored Kill: 2/10 (Surprisingly, the one DLC I was looking forward to the most sucked the most ass. I didn't really play too many matches of AK but from what I did I didn't really enjoy. Maps were huge, but there was a whole lot of open ground that would mean instant death for someone proceeding on foot. The AC-130 was particularly annoying.)
Aftermath: 10/10 (Best BF3 DLC period. Maps feel unique and are a breath of fresh air for the game.)
Endgame: 8/10

I agree with your assessment of the expansions. I to was looking forward to armor kill the most and was very disappointed. Although I would give CQ a much worse ranking then 7 as I hated every map and thought it to be COD all over again. I haven't played much Endgame yet but I absolutely loved Aftermath!
