Teravainen and Samuelsson will be NHL wingers, so not a direct comparison, perhaps... Tho others project to be Cs

Correct except Matteau is also a winger, now and longterm.

This article just nails it home to me how important those top 3 to 5 picks are in most draft years. There is such a scrutiny on the top picks that for the most part they are a known quantity and are already used to dealing with all of the extra pressures associated with their status. To me, how a kid deals with this is a big factor in his future success as well. Looking at Jankowski, he went from relatively unknown to being a 1st round pick in a Canadian hockey market. I can understand why the Flames are doing what they can to shelter him, but at the same time it scares me because there is so much up in the air with him.

Still, gaining what looks to be a solid 2nd round pick with our Jankowski pick seems like it's still a pretty solid move in my books.

Considering Janko was considered a 2nd round pick by some and was taken off the board it is nice to see the scouts still have him ranked in the top 25 this year. Hopefully he takes a huge step next year and can make the WJ team. A big summer of weights can do wonders for this kid. I am optimstic about his ability to develop, from all accounts he has made some very slick plays this year, is still growing, and has a solid head on his shoulders.

I would be awesome to have Sven-MacKinnon on the top line and Gaudreau-Jankowski on the 2nd line in 5 years.

Laughton peaks as a 3rd line guy... I'd rather roll the dice a bit than go with the low upside.

Exactly. It's not that hard to find a 3rd line center.

Plus Reinhart, Horak, or Bouma could end up being a 3rd line center

The first I heard of Janko was Craig Button including him in his top 30 picks (#16 if I recall correctly) in the months leading to the draft. He seemed to be championing his cause. I was hoping we would draft him with our pick. Anyone who projects as a big #1 Centre is worth taking a gamble on.

Laughton has the upside to be a second liner based on at this season

I'll put a box of timbits against Jankowski leading Flames centremen in any major boxscore category before 2020.

Weren't there rumours that NJD were interested in drafting him if we didn't?

While he was considered a 2nd rounder, sounds like some did have him as a 1st on their list. Glad to see (more?) people have him as a 1st rounder.

For sure, a lot changes in 9 months...

Just to give you guys an idea of what kind of hands Big Janks has.

That was a 6'3 guy doing some Johnny Hockey kinda stick work in tight right there, pretty impressive to say the least.

I could see him really breaking out points-wise in his sophomore season.

He might be the only natural C on the roster at that point.

He's big, he's skilled, he's got a nice skating stride, plenty of room to fill out his frame, and....he plays centre. Wish we had more prospects like him.

2014 (?) can't come fast enough with Jankow/JohnnyG/Sven, and hopefully Backlund is healthy as Backlund has had some slick goals and plays this year.

I think he will. Considering he started the year as a 17 year old in a league that is dominated by players 20 and older, he is already doing well.

Yup the Devils are forced to forfeit a 1st round pick due to the Kovy contract and none will likely be lower than their 29th pick but the rumor is they wanted Jankowski. Also heard the Canucks wanted him but that is all speculation. Watching his goal on Sunday he looked big and drove the net hard it was encouraging

He will only be 25 during the 2019/2020 season. If he is leading the Flames in any major catagory at that point, that would make him a very successful draft pick.

Montreal was also rumoured to be interested.
