Cammy in his first stint as a flame would deserve captain honors. Tanguay appears to be a leader and has that respectable veteran presence and a cup.

The Canadien's success this year has nothing to do with Cammalleri. They were considerably rebuilt and re-energized preparing for this year and it's working wonders.
That team would be all the more incredible if Cammalleri was on it.

I fail to see how calling your team on a lack of leadership, a 7.8 million dollar cap hit with what like 5 points, makes you unqualified for a role of captain. Cammalleri has shown that he can step up and do what it takes to make his team win. See his faceoff percentage.
I feel like everyone here thinks they are in the locker room after every game. From what we see from Cammy, he's a skilled player who can talk to the media and step up and take a huge role on a team that absolutely needs it, he's not afraid to say what has to be said, and surely nobody can miss how supportive he is to the young guys on the ice? When I think 2 of our players, Aliu and Baertschi perhaps, scored their first goals, he was the one that was pulling the puck out of the net, handing it to them, congratulating them. I am all but certain that he will wear the C when Iginla is gone.

Maybe its because we all think he is too short to be captain

Being in the top 30 in scoring has nothing to do with being a captain and a good leader.

Cammalleri sure has been shopped around a lot in his career. This makes me wonder how good of a locker room guy he is, not to mention a leader.

He has? He was traded from LA to the Flames and then from Montreal to the Flames. When else has he been shopped? The first trade came when LA was in a tailspin and not wanting to re-sign him for the money he wanted nor lose him for nothing. The second trade was to try and spark something decent in Montreal, where he probably wasn't all too happy any longer with the way that team had been playing, and for the Flames to make a playoff push bringing back a player with past chemistry.
I think it's pretty evident from all the videos that Cammy is a GREAT locker room guy. Even his comments in Montreal last year were directed at himself as much as his teammates. It was a group mentality he was commenting on, not the crap like Miller has been spouting or the shots Luongo takes at his teammates.

3 teams, and the only reason he went to Montreal was he played too good in Calgary his first stint that they couldn't afford him because of the cap. Got brought back anyways.
What you're saying seems like a pretty big stretch.

So you are saying he wanted more money so he got trade, the Flames choose to keep Olli so he got traded, then you said he was not happy with the Habs because they weren't winning so he got traded, and that is a future captain you want on your team?
I like Cammy. I just don't think he is captain material.

FYI, as expected (and hoped for):
@vickihallch
Flames confirm not to name a captain until the summer.

They should name one in the summer either. Make them earn it next year. Somebody has to step up and become the leader.

I agree, we don't need a captain, just do the platoon assistant captain thing for awhile until a leader emerges.

I hope it is Cammi.
None of us knows what goes off in the locker room, so can only make a judgement based on the snippets we see.
From my perspective, I see a personable guy who seems grounded. He is honest about his team and his contribution to it. When things aren't going well - which is pretty much whenever the guys step out of the 'dome, I get the feeling that he will look at his performance first rather than look for scapegoats elsewhere.
He works hard, and he is a guy who genuinely wants to be in Calgary.
That's how I see it, admittedly from far away, I'm not as immersed in everything that goes on as someone living in Calgary may be, but my vote goes to Cammi.

Think they should give it back to Conroy.
