the next captain will be simply an interim choice, who will hold the 'C' until the dust settles from the make-over that this team will hopefully be getting...soon

Iggy - he ain't goin' nowhere! The only guy deserving to wear a Flames jersey and having the C is the man who put his team on his shoulders for so many years. All the others are expendable. Well, maybe with the exception of Kipper - but he ain't gonna get the C like stupid 7uongo.

Ya, we owe it to Iggy to be here forever! He's carried this team to a Stanley Cup Final once before... never trade him, never move on, sign him to a long term $7 mill deal, forget the future...past and present baby! Keep Iggy until he looks like this...

well if we can translate Camm, Tangs and Stajan into Lecavallier, St. Louis and Brad Richards, I'll take it!

I don't think Glencross pouts - I think he's a competitive player that gets frustrated with the officiating sometimes. That could be used to describe a lot of players in this league.

I think glencross is one of the poutiest players I've seen in a flames uni.
His little hissy fit in the media after being scratched was pretty pathetic.

I think there aren't any real leaders on this team right now. Iggy is a leader but if he's gone there really isn't anyone to come in and take the bull by the horns so to speak.
I agree with most that there should be a vacant "C" until someone who embodies a true Captain comes along.

Or last season after he stopped getting 1st line minutes after the Cammy trade. I like Glencross, and I think he gets a lot of undeserved flack on this forum, but he's not captain material.

Fair enough - agree to disagree I guess. I didn't see the interview you are speaking of but in general I don't think that describes Glencross' personality.
Getting emotional/frustrated in an interview is nothing new for players. Given the emotional reactions to a simple message on an internet forum sometimes (I am not talking about you - just in general), I can appreciate that players may vent publicly. I am not saying it's a good decision, I am saying I can appreciate that it can/will happen.
Also - just to be clear, I was speaking in the interim given our current lineup, I would pick Glencross. Gio would have been an easy pick a year ago but it's not as clear cut right now.

Glencross is 27th in league scoring with only 24 games played, he has games in hand against everyone in the top 30, ranging between 2-6 games less than anyone else. That's VERY good. Glencross the poutiest player in a flames uni? Anyone watch Stajan? Doesn't matter when he gets penalized, or bitched at, or even kicked out of the dot, he's always whining to the refs. Every. Single. Time. But it just so happens that is why he is doing so well this season, it's called playing with passion, not being a bitch.

This shows you how rough of shape the Flames are in. In my opinion there is nobody on the roster or in the system who is even close to being considered captain material. Last year would have said Gio but not now. And all those people saying Cammy??? PLEASE..

I would LOVE to hear a well rounded argument as to why Micheal Cammalleri is not captain material. I really would.

I will add that he has been working on his faceoffs and quietly raised his win percentage to 54.8 percent.

What he did in montreal is enough for me. He doesn't have an visable leadership qualities that you'd want from a leader. Good player, but not every player is meant to lead

It depends on what you bitch about. Stajan gets visibly frustrated at refs, as does Glencross. Where Glencross differs (at least that we have evidence of) is when he citches about coaches decisions publicly. He's complained (very poutily I might add) on more than one occasion about not receiving the ice time or line placement he thinks he deserved at the time. To me, that's not captain material.

What happened in Montreal? I remember him lifting an underdog team on his back and having an amazing playoffs. Then I remember him calling out his team for not preparing or practicing like winners when they weren't winning, and he was promptly traded here in the middle of a game. Other than that, I didn't follow his progress over there too closely.

Plus, the team he called out finished near the bottom of the NHL. So a pretty legit callout.
