When/if Jay is going to (be allowed to?) speak again, this would be on the top of the list yet again to ask him.
Its a short, medium, long term need, no matter your hopes for positive Flames results this year or not, and beyond just Backlund obviously.

maybe the flames should try to get a solid 3rd line, shutdown type center (like a yelle) to get a tough to play against, face off/possession checking line.

We have 2-3 second line guys (backlund, stajan, cervenka) but nothing like a top line center, or checking line center, let's address the easier one for now?

At what cost? The teams selling a 3rd line center probably want picks and prospects.

I was hoping the next time he'd speak was when he was sitting beside Brad May on the Sportsnet panel

Seems that he's on a short leash in regards to his communication as of late.... Certainly not like last years tirades and openness....

Teams that panic and make trades to address today without a clear eye to the long term empty out their cupboards awfully quickly.

Personally I hope that the Flames make moves to change direction at the deadline by moving Iggy and Bouw. Hopefully they bring back good assets. In my opinion the Bouwmeester asset has to address the center ice position and Iggy can be moved for futures. I know moving Bouw opens up a huge hole on the backend but I am pretty sure JML out of Toronto can be had for cheap and he can move the puck up the ice

Iggy for pick, prospect
Bouw for center
Sarich for Liles

The flames could still theoretically push for the playoffs this year if they make te right moves. I wish Bouw didn't have a NMC he could be Philly bound

You are so right! And when you're an NHL player come back and we'll talk, otherwise you have no right to say a peep about hockey.

To make a playoff push using your trade examples they would need to acquire a top 6 center that can play now. I don't see any team making a cup run giving up a top 6 center.
